Pretty sure td starts the lowest out of bank tellers and credit unions generally have a higher starting wage. 12-14~ to start

if you are smart, you will find a bank that will pay for your financial education. I worked at JP Morgan Chase, and it was a waste of my time.

Honnestly, if you like money, move to Alberta. $6k/mo now

Honestly, if he likes money, he should move to North to whitehorse. $6k/mo probably at any job lol

adrnlnrush00 09-06-2011 01:55 PM

$15 - $17 per hour but you'll be working part-time hours since there's a bit of a seniority in terms of picking up hours.

I agree that one could move up particular fast if one shows initiative in cross-training and learning the other positions within the front-end staff.

I always though TD was one of the higher paying banks too...
Thanks for everyone's input!

One of my good friends worked at Scotiabank for half a year and was making $15/hr.

Canada is actually one of the growth areas for HSBC. Most of the cutting is occurring in Europe and the US.

My gf works at BMO and her full time salary as Teller was $30,000 / yr. She just got promoted to FSM1, and only makes $33,000.

After you factor in taxes and deductions, you don't really end up making much. And moving up the ladder takes a lot of hard work and patience. You get yelled at by dumbass customers who don't understand the concept of banks and fees, every single day, and your branch manager will rarely side with their colleagues, since priority is on customer service.

You gotta kiss a lotta ass in the banking business.

Just my POV. :)

Just out of curiosity, what do bank tellers usually do? And what are they requirements? :O

dignatas 09-07-2011 07:16 PM

RBC started with 12 dollars. It is worst than TD.. haha and my sister said a lot of gossiping and sucking bosses' ass to get promoted. Oh yea gay guys too. Easy money though... getting 15$ if you work enough

In the old days, all bank tellers did was just process regular bank transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, and bill payments. Now, you have to analyze accounts and try to sell customers new products such as more expensive banking plans, credit cards, insurance policies, etc. Also, you're responsible for referring customers with extra cash to investment or lending specialists.

The requirements aren't that onerous - you need to be able to communicate, be able to handle sticky situations, and be able to sell.

Of course, because you're in a position they don't give a shit about and can just find anyone to do it.

Is this your first job?

All you need to do is ASK, and they will tell you. Quite simple

so... do you think someone with no experience in this particular job field would get hired? :fullofwin:

reason i ask, im in need of a job before i start schooling again

flagella 09-08-2011 09:00 PM

You'll most likely get the job if you have a referral. Most of my friends working as a teller had no prior experience.

Do you and have you worked at HSBC? Canada doesn't make money for them. People at the branch level are not very good either.

I know coast capital starts at about 16/hr as customer service so I guess teller is around there. But I also hear HSBC is really strict in terms or the corporate ladder and yells at you a lot

Sorry to bump an old thread.

Has the salary been around the same as 2 years ago? Or have they gone up?
Anyone been hired for a basic teller / CSR job lately?

jeedee 10-03-2013 02:14 AM

Friend of mine works at TD as a CSR. She gets 15/h part time

Got the job through a referral
