| ICO & Shadow of the Colossus collection
Anyone played ICO and SOTC? I'm trying to determine if i'll like those games. I'm a big hack n slash/ beat em up fan. From my understanding it's an action/adventure game? From what I can see, castlevania lords of the shadow would be the closest to those games minus the combat system? I've looked at reviews but I still can't tell if i'll like them. Any help would be appreciated.

definately not hack and slash games. all i remember from ico was that it had great atmosphere. sotc felt like horse riding interrupted by battles. i hated that damn horse and that princess you had to drag around in ico.

I want to bite but I'm not sure if i'll end up liking them. | I've played both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus (SOTC) and Castlevania on PSX and NDS. Loved 'em all. But both are vastly different.
if you're into hack and slash, Castlevania and Dynasty Warriors, etc. seem to be a better bet. There is not much hacking and slashing to do in ICO and SOTC.
If games were made into a work of art to be displayed, they would be ICO or SOTC.
While in Castlevania you're fighting your way throughout the level, the gameplay in ICO and SOTC is more about travelling and admiring the landscape. Both are beautiful games, excellent scenery. The scale between your character and his environment really makes you feel all alone. In both games it's mostly about figuring how to get from point A to point B, lots of climbing or horseback riding involved.
The action/battle sequences in ICO/SOTC are few and far in between. They involve more about thinking and figuring out how to defeat a certain monster. In SOTC aside from the colossi, there are no other enemies. You can kill the odd wildlife you encounter for upgrades but that's about it. Killing a Colossus does not take a lot of hacking and slashing, but the beauty of the game is figuring out wtf you're supposed to do. Having said that, you gotta do so while scaling said monster, which can be breathtaking given the size of the beasts and the nice-looking graphics. I played SOTC on PS2 on a 27" CRT TV mind you.
Hope that helps, a bit wordy, sorry, but I am a big fan of ICO/SOTC/Castlevania also.
