Other than work and dating, things like Stephen Chow movies motivated me to learn. Cantonese is funny AF once you get it.
Cantonese is definitely one of the most interesting languages in the world.
Heck, even Google translate has a feature where you can translate between English and Cantonese and vice versa.
It's more than a language though. It's part of the identity and culture of millions of Chinese people. -still the main language of Hong Kong, for now.
Cantonese has some of the most crude swear words in any language.

That's just one of the more common swear words in Canto.

I don't even negotiate with them. I just look at something I like, ask what the price is, say "oh" or "ha?" and then walk away. They immediately give you a better price lol.

Please teach me your ways - I felt like a complete loser trying to haggle at SSP today with my CBC canto. One vendor even started responding in English

I would respond in kind in Canto to that vendor. If it's a Chinese uncle, go aggressive in your reply like what Hobz says.
Say "Ah bak! Guangdong wah!!! Nai long ah, diu nei lun yeung????" The loose translation into English would be
"Yo unc, it's Cantonese. Are you deaf, fuck your fucked up face!"
If it's a Chinese lady, just use the variation and stay aggressive: "Ah mo, Guangdon wah! Nai long ah, Diu nei goh chou hai!!!"

Then you include your price in your reply to lowball the vendor.

There was some place my friends recommended to me in SSP. It was basically an in-person Temu. Prices were rock bottom and I ended up with a lot of great deals!
There are quite a few of those now - I'm pretty sure I walked into the one you're talking about (Sham Shui Po Gadget Outlet?). I was pretty overwhelmed by all the people and stuff there that I just walked out.

sounds familiar, it was pretty close to the MTR exit from what I remember. and yes, it was PACKED full of people shopping. staff had to ask people to move out of the way so they could restock.

They ordered the “Man Wah Premium Set Dinner,” priced at HK$2,388 per person, and a bottle of 2002 Krug Clos d’Ambonnay champagne, which cost a jaw-dropping HK$71,800. The total bill, including a 10 per cent service charge, amounted to more than HK$84,000.
The woman, 31, met her date, a man around 26 or 27 years old, who claimed to be a lawyer, via messaging app Telegram, local media said.
According to HK01, the man excused himself during the dinner and never returned to the table. The woman failed to reach the man and eventually settled the bill with help from friends.
So the chick had to call so many friends to pay.
She filed for a police case.
Then cancelled.
Then went back in the morning.

Poor judgement from the woman IMO. She really thought that she would have a baller treat her for a dinner at Michellin star restaurant as a blind date???

I read a recent story (9gag I think?). Some dude in China went on a first date and to his surprise, his date brought along 23 of her family members to test his generosity. The guy sat there for the dinner and then left them to pay the bill lol. Later on he offered a lesser amount to cover himself and the girl's food. Girl tries to sue and judge rules in favour of the man.

I think prostituion is not illegal in Hong Kong as long as it is the sex worker dealing directly with the customer. There are some other restrictions in place as well, but I think they pretty much boil down to it only being not illegal if it is happening in someone's private residence.
Laws around anyone supporting prostitution are extremely strict. I remember reading that in theory, even a laundromat washing bath towels for a sex worker could be considered as providing support to prostitution, and is in violation of the law. Pimping is also illegal.
Don't ask me why I know this.
