I've always believed dumb people would be the downfall of society and unfortunately they've been proving me correct for quite a few years now. I had just been talking about this briefly over the holidays and I think it was the early 2000's (perhaps 2005ish) when I noticed people favouring their own opinions over actual facts. It's been a downhill slide since then.

I was reading an article about the Minnesota daycare shit today and how that former YouTuber Nick Shirley is now famous becuase Elon and Vance both retweeted him blah blah

The most disturbing thing about it though was the proclamation by these people that the lack of guardrails for them and not having to do fact checking like a traditional news media outlet is actually what makes them MORE reliable news than the news itself. And younger generations believe that to be true too.

Already received some meme/posts from a friend (a pharmacist, and certainly not a dummy), complaining about these Somali daycares.

I've been reading about it this morning, but it seems like a complete nothingburger. I wouldn't be surprised there is some fraud out there, as there is with any government paid public grants, but it's funny they don't seem to cry when someone like Ben Roethlisberger does it, or the myriad of companies taking public funds through bullshit contracts and the like

wasn't sure if the lack of guardrails comment on fact checking YT content or gov oversight of fraudulent spending?

i saw the guy's video piece, it looks pretty damning but not sure if i'm being finessed after reading your comment.

I haven't watched his piece, his history of prank videos and hstorical alignment with MAGA powerfuls doesn't lead me to believe it's likely to be well researched though, just running with yet another racial narrative.

I'm more saying in general that it's scary people take youtuber or tiktok words as gospel and that they themselves are saying yes that is the correct approach because we're not encumbered like regular news media.
