hk20000, you seriously drilled holes through your fenders and bumper just to keep from losing/driving over your bumper?

:seriously:

hk20000 11-19-2011 02:40 PM

well it's either that or drop the bumper and/or lip and end up driving over it...What chu gonna do?

I was fed up with it so I invented a self-recovering bumper attachment system with all parts available from home depot. The plastic tabs from factory are removed so to make the bumper "recovery" smooth every time a force pushes up on the lip, leveraging the rear of the bumper to come downwards.
Spoiler!

Now you just need some touch-up paint...

Step 1) Grow up and realize your job requires you to appear professional and drive in and out of driveways every day
Step 2) Remove ricer 17-year old kid lip
Step 3) Remove hideous giant alloy bolt heads sticking through your fender and bumper
Step 4) Plug holes with small rubber plugs painted body colour
Step 5) Whenever you have the urge to mod your car, look at the holes in your bodywork and remember Step 1.

Did you see the size of the bolt heads...?

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...79259506_n.jpg

They also arent even the flush style so they stick out...

kwy 11-19-2011 10:23 PM

We're not the style police. I don't care how bad your car looks as long as I don't have to be in it.

lowside67 11-19-2011 10:26 PM

Isn't the whole point of this thread for the guys who are more interested with the way the car looks (low) than the way it functions (not scraping, suspension geometry)...?

kwy 11-19-2011 10:31 PM

I envisioned this thread as more of an "Alcoholics Anonymous" for people with lowered cars. Exchanging ideas on DDing our impractical rides. For the record, I don't think the bungee cord bumper idea is bad. There's probably a better method of execution, but I guess it's better than having your bumper rip off.

GabAlmighty 11-19-2011 10:51 PM

I don't have that problem.. I've probably got over 24" of group clearance at the front bumper.

G-spec 11-19-2011 10:57 PM

I gotta say life with lowered cars IS getting quite a bit better here in Van now that they've repaved good stretches of Kingsway, (willingdon to nanaimo, still a gap between nanaimo and knight street which is actually the fcking worst, but they'll redo it soon hopefully) and the most important stretch of 41st, (its silky smooth from Joyce all the way to Cambie) these have become my main lifelines to the city.

Suprarz666 11-19-2011 11:16 PM

lol, if you think that LS winter setup is bad, wait till i post mine.

No one is criticizing hk2000's AE86 or even his Cube, despite it looking like it was designed by Hasbro as a children's toy, people criticize because the Accord is supposed to be his professional car for chauffeuring clients around. A car scrapping as it enters a driveway is not professional and it does not leave clients with a good impression, which should be the sole goal for the car.

Numerous RS'ers have already made that fact clear, and we're a community who modifies cars, I can't imagine what the opinions of the general public would be.

hk20000 11-20-2011 03:58 AM

As it sits it's got the same stance as a normal 08 Civic for wheel gap and speed bump clearance between the wheels. I just made it curb-proof for what it'd cost to eat a good lunch.

Keep the hate on the build thread, coz I'm not reading that anyway. And aren't we here to support each other for having a lowered car? If your car keeps scraping off curbs and larger obstacles off the road isn't the bungee cord as good of an idea as any? I know for sure next time I scrape I'm not going to find pieces of lip / bumper scattered all across the intersection - and that makes the "life with lowered car" (thread title, btw) bearable. It's basically down to 3 choices: what some calls a "thug life" it (which I still can't fathom what that means), let the bumper come off, or now a new innovative solution called bungee cord. I was thinking about having those sprung panel latch thing people use on their race cars for quick servicing but that will be even more visible from the outside. A sprung version of this:
http://www.gscreationsllc.com/images...2hoodLatch.jpg

If I run over the bumper you can hate all you want and say "I told you so". While it's working it's brilliant, I rest my case.

ya but your work description doesn't read as follows:

"go up and down curbs and driveways of houses you have never been to 5 days a week"

I guess when you have had the car for a long time you can mentally calculate if the curb in that house coming right up will clear the lip....but I only had my car for less than 3 weeks so give me a break.
