Comfort would depend on ride height as well. My 240 definitely wasn't the most comfortable ride sitting 2.5" from the ground lol on Stance coils and all spherical bushings + subframe collars.

I've never owned one but, after reading the first several replies, I agree with everyone. A stock 240 or mild mod'd 1 will serve well.

Great starter car.

Are you guys on crack? They're terrible cars.

So much body flex, I bet the frame isn't even straight.

Convertible..let's see...

Overweight

So much body flex you can see your gas cap when making right turns

Have fun finding the worn out and torn top parts (seals, clips, etc) American Specialty Cars doesn't make these parts anymore.

Also, convertibles are only available in automatics.

Nissan has also stopped producing EVAP canisters for these cars, which kinda sucks cause AirCare is going to be here for another 10 years. EVAP systems are starting to fail on these cars btw.

Stock engine is quite reliable, but it will suck gas like no tomorrow. Expect 15-18 MPG in the city with premium, maybe 17 tops with the vert.

Also, stock wise, they will probably handle almost as good as EK's...S13's have terrible under steering issues, easily fixed with suspension modifications...but then the body takes a toll.

Ever wonder why they rust a lot on the strut towers?

There's so much flex that the seams literally move up and down and side to side, busting the terrible factory seam sealer open and allowing moisture to creep in. These cars may look fine from the outside, but they are all rotting from the inside.
This issue was resolved with the S14's (somewhat). There is an extra bracing right between the towers and the firewall on each side...which is just spot welded on and seam sealed (Good Job Nissan).

Stay away from these cars unless you're actually willing to waste money on them.

This is coming from who's been dealing with these cars since 1999.

too much thought is going into this. 240s are fun time cars that's it. they're not cool or baller or g or luxurious and they most def will not get you laid.

they are cheap rear wheel play toys that will break, but that's 3/4 of the fun.

i had a 2002 infiniti G20. it should be in the same price range as S14 but newer..

it was reliable and provides modest performance and it can seat 4 comfortably. i had the sport model which was equipped with 5spd + lsd paired with the legendary sr20. ( i also had a ep3 with the k20, it was light years ahead of the sr20 in terms of technology, yet the same year and displacement)

Thanks everyone so it seems like a general consensus - no to the convertible.

Any thoughts on the 300zx? 2+2? Twin Turbo? Non Turbo?

Convertibles come at a cost but generally have less rust due to the fact they are less likely to be winter driven. As posted above they only came in auto easily swapped out for a 5sp. It doesn't take much to reinforce an s13 chassis nor is it crazy expensive to fix the strut tower rust.
Any import car of this vintage is going to be prone to all the issues posted above even old Hondas don't get as good a mileage as when they were new.

Didn't want to make my own thread and have never owned a 240/180 but considering it. How much hatch space is there on the hatchbacks. Enough to fit a big hockey goalie bag with pads and 2 sticks?

More than you'll ever need with rear seats down.

^ True dat. Couldn't fit a minature furnace in my buddies Corolla so I rolled up in my 240, folded down the rear seats and BAM. In it goes.

Great (dead) thread, I've been really looking at a 240. Good to know some of the good and bad.

I had 3 240s and I always had to work on them in the past, they are not the most reliable.
