Where To: Buy Dry Ice

Does anyone know where I can buy dry ice locally? I know they sell them at grocery markets in the states but I've yet to see them at the local Safeway or what have you.

I do realize there are commercial dry ice vendors but they're closed weekends. I need it today.

Thanks in advance!

I dont' know where you get buy some but i've got some from Safeway before. Usually by the end of the night or mid day they get a whole box of them from shippments.

Just ask them nicely and they're usually more than happy to give them to you for free. I got some from multiple Safeways around the lower mainland. Good luck!

Call Iceberg Dry Ice, local Vancouver company that distributes all over. The have different size and quantity options. Not sure about prices.

I used the dry ice method on a 40 year old car in the middle of summer and it worked great.

For future reference:

Praxair minimum is a 10lb order which costs $20. It's 2, 10"x10"x1" slabs (5lbs. ea)

They do have pellets available but for the purpose of removing sound deadening, I found the slabs work best since I could break one slab into quarters and leave the rest in the freezer. Once I left it on one section of the car long enough I could start chiseling while it was sitting on the next section. The 2 slabs were enough to do the whole cabin floor of my car and still have enough to play with when I was done.

Putting dry ice in a freezer is not a good idea.

Dry Ice Information - all about dry ice

It is best not to store Dry Ice in your freezer because your freezer's thermostat will shut off the freezer due to the extreme cold of the Dry Ice!

Like I said, I used it in the middle of summer so the freezer (on or off) was still a lot colder than the ambient temp. One could also stick it in a cooler of some sort (reco'd for transport anyways).

What do you mean?
It's to remove sound deadning from the cars for light weight reduction.
Pretty automotive related if you ask me.
