IMHO, the gain from Sli doesnt seem to be worth the cost of buying 2 cards...

AnandTech - Bench - GPU11

AnandTech - Bench - GPU12

SLI 560 Ti is faster than 580. Seems to be on par to a 670.

If you can get one used for under 100, I say go for it. Think they were hovering around 150 new last time I checked.

I've got a problem in my system.

I7 930
6gb ram
GTX 580
(C: )60gb ssd
(D: )1tb WD Black
750w Corsair Psu

Whenever I play games that are graphics intensive, the game would randomly crash. Or maybe not so random, Once it crashes and I try to play again, it would crash again soon after. But if I let my system rest for a while, I could play for a while before the first crash happens. And this only happens in Graphics Intensive games - Sleeping Dogs, Crysis 1, and now AC3. Didn't happen on Rage but I was watching the GPU usage on that in Afterburner and its pretty easy on the load. Also didnt happen on CIV 5, Dungeon Defenders.

And I monitor the GPU temp using after burner, it says max I reach is around 65 C
Games are installed in the D: drive

try updating your video card driver...

are you using a MSI card?

I'm using a factory OC MSI 570 card, and it used to always crash too..
But then i underclocked it to reference speed and its been stable ever since..

I'm using 306.97 right now, I have a Twin Frozr II factory oc'ed at 800, and I already did underclock it to stock settings (Core: 772, Memory:2004; taken from afterburner) but that didn't stop the problem.

Pulled the trigger on this .

Corsair Vengeance Black CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB 2X8GB DDR3-1600 CL10 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit

If you can find one for $120 or less...I would just SLI...560Ti is still relevant these days.
It's a more cost effective upgrade than dropping >$300 for 670

Did this start out of nowhere (ie not after new driver...cleaning the card)

are you seeing artifact? Maybe it's dying and time for RMA

nop, not even seeing artifact, It just crashes the game. I just actually tried it now after shutting down my pc for several hours. And I'm crashing after a couple minutes into the game (AC3). Maybe my theory about letting the cpu rest is bunk.
Anyway, I don't know when this started. I know I was playing a lot of diablo 3 when it came out and had no problems with that. Pretty sure its not because of a new driver. Maybe it started after I cleaned the card? My room is carpeted and I know there's precautions about grounding yourself but I've never done those. How would I know if static electricity has damaged my video card?

SkinnyPupp 11-22-2012 07:39 PM

Do all games crash, or just that one? And the obvious question, is it pirated?

not all games crash, just the ones that use a lot of gpu. Yes they are mostly pirated but Crysis also crashes which I bought in steam. Checked the integrity of game cache on it.

Where do you guys get cheap case lighting?

3klipze 11-24-2012 08:38 PM

can anyone suggest a HTPC build? (size of computer does not matter, so ATX and medium size case is fine)

budget: no more than 500$? after tax?

Was thinking of just going onboard video card/soundcard, and get more storage.

Yeah that's just a guide to build around

eBay 48cm LED strip - $2-3 (make sure its 12V)
molex female plug - FREE: cut it off of an extra VGA 6/8 pin to dual molex adaptor that comes with most GPUs

Solder leads together and you get a cheap, flexible strip of blindingly bright light in the color of your choice

Total cost without the cost of 1cm of solder and some tape: < $3. Can't get cheaper than that
