I really don’t care if our police force is called RCMP or if its called something else, I want accountability. Something that currently doesn’t seem exist in many areas of BC policing.

Realistically, I would assume if we got rid of the RCMP here in BC, many of the current RCMP officers would be offered jobs with whatever the “new” police force is. Changing the name but giving it the same face isn’t going to help anyone.

Police forces in BC, both RCMP and city outfits like VPD need to be held accountable for the actions they commit. Both the officers who commit the actions, and there bosses. Then things would begin to change.

I actually think its better to keep the RCMP, I would assume it may actually bring in some tourism dollars, people want to see Mounties.

People always mention that BC would offer current members of the RCMP who are stationed in BC jobs, if they were to create a provincial force, but they have to realize a few things. Firstly, The vast number of mounties that are about to retire will NOT start from scratch with a provincial force. Secondly, Mounties who are in their 10th or 15th year will not give up their Federal pension only to start from scratch with the province. Thirdly, will the province match the salary/pension/vacation days earned that members of the RCMP has if they were to transfer? There is alot of work in creating a city force, let alone a Provincial one

Guarantee it will be billions of dollars to switch. Whatever they estimate, expect it to be double or triple the amount. And it will have to come directly from BC taxpayers.

Another problem you have is BC is full of pansies. Everyone wants to work in the Lower Mainland. Who is going to Police all the area's up north? I would bet the majority of those RCMP are from Ontario or further east where they're not afraid of the cold. You will end up with sub par people working there.
