Probably one of my favorite shows of all time. I still remember watching it twice a day, once at 5:00 on channel 3 and 7:30 on fox. I would religiously watch the new episodes that aired every sunday and it got me through my week! To be honest, I haven't watched any new episodes in a very long time. It's not as funny anymore and too much random crap happens during a single episode that I've lost interest. To me, there'll always be reruns :)

i agree that this show should have been ended a long time ago. i think we all remember the golden age when you would watch replays and still laugh despite having seen the episode multiple times or when you just HAD to watch the simpsons halloween specials.

hell, bob's burgers was funnier than the simpsons but that got cancelled it seems. i guess the simpsons is just such a large part of american culture, they see no reason to get rid of it just yet.

Havent seen simpsons in ages. This convo is making me miss the oldschool ones. What would be cool is if fox puts on repeats from season 1 + on sunday nights. Id tune in for sure.

I was never a big fan but even I've noticed it gotten worse.

Remember when homer became a trucker? Favorite episode ever.

This show was a big part of my childhood and some of the stories I related to as things I was going through around the same time. It hasn't been relevant to me in nearly a decade.

All my friends in elementary school would come to school next day after a new Simpsons episode and recite and recall scenes from the show. My family just had the basic cable package so I had to wait a day later until it aired thus missing out. This was back in the days when channels were scrambled so I found the Fox channel and would listen to the audio and make out what I could from the scrambled images just so I could go to school and be able to take part in the conversations.

I also remember finding a cassette tape of The Simpsons with songs like Do The Bartman. It became my favourite tape.

My favourite track

However, the issue was soon resolved and from 1998 to 2004, they were paid $125,000 per episode. In 2004, the voice actors intentionally skipped several table reads, demanding they be paid $360,000 per episode.[17] The strike was resolved a month later[18] and until 2008 they earned something between $250,000[19] and $360,000 per episode.[20] In 2008, production for the twentieth season was put on hold due to new contract negotiations with the voice actors, who wanted a "healthy bump" in salary to an amount close to $500,000 per episode.[20] The dispute was soon resolved, and the actors' salary was raised to $400,000 per episode.[21]

So everyone here seems to have the same recollection of memories, and each have their favorite episode (majority from the same first 9 years). So I take everyone must be around the same age. Do young kids these days even watch this show?

The Simpsons is in it's 23rd season!!! Come on, give it a rest! IMO it should have been cancelled after season 9. All the best stories, funniest most memorable moments, and best characters are from seasons 2-9.

This is coming from someone who grew up on the Simpsons, and my sense of humour was largely formed by that show. And I can watch those old episodes over and over and never get bored.

But this show needs to be GONE..like 13 YEARS AGO. It's unfunny and shitty and has been stretching out old shit exploiting any possible character and moment from the golden years. I even made a point NEVER to see the Simpsons Movie, because I KNOW it's SHIT without ever seeing it. I don't want to see rehashed bullshit and sit thru 90 minutes of it or however long it was.

Good riddance once this show is cancelled. It used to break my heart to say that, but GOOD LORD, The Simpsons has been comatose on life support for 13 years...be kind and fuckin pull the plug already and let them rest in peace.

If you don't like it that much then just don't watch it.

Sure the Simpsons isn't in its golden days anymore but I still find it amusing. I don't watch TV to to for its amazing character development and cool effects blah blah blah. I watch it for its mindless entertainment value.

Also, Simpsons movie was fucking hilarious spiderpig4lyfe.

bcrdukes 10-07-2011 01:34 AM

To be honest, if they stopped producing new episodes of The Simpsons, I wouldn't miss it.

FerrariEnzo 10-07-2011 01:50 AM

i havent watched an episode of the simpsons in the past 5 years now...

MarkyMark 10-07-2011 02:20 AM

I'd rather them stop making the show and just come out with a movie every few years. That is something I would actually watch.

StylinRed 10-07-2011 05:44 AM

i watched this past sundays episode; i dont remember wat happened on the show but that opening was creepy as hell

the problem with Fox is they like to alienate all shows they air to how they want it and it usually ends up being the death of the show; im actually surprised Simpsons has lasted so long

all shows usually start out funny, sure, but there's also a story or lesson to be learned most times it would be a familial lesson (married with children, family guy, simpsons, etc) and then a season or two later and the changes happen there are no more lessons/messages to get across certain characters become dumber and the general tone of each episode is just blaaaaaaaaaah mindless going ons

if you go back to the 1st season of any of those shows (mwc,fg,simp) you'll likely not recognize it

that was the problem for Matt Groening and that's why he got into Futurama so he could have some creative freedom again
