The Simpsons in Danger of being cancelled

yea the show has been lacking for quite a few years now, but this is pretty big news. lets hope its got some life left

Quote:

In its 23rd year on TV, "The Simpsons" could be on the endangered species list.

The show's producer said Tuesday that the show can't continue under its current financial model.

That follows a report that big pay cuts are being sought for the actors who provide voices for Homer, Marge and Bart Simpson and the other characters.

Chris Alexander is a spokesman for 20th Century Fox Television. Alexander says the producer hopes for an agreement that allows the show to continue.

The Daily Beast reported that producers are demanding a 45 percent pay cut from the six voice actors.

Simpsons has been going down hill for a while, they try to hard to be funny like family guy.

Old simpsons are so much better, more depth

Truth.

They should've killed it after about 10 seasons. I can watch the old episodes over and over again.

Quality over quantity. Everything should end when it's at its peak. IMO, this series has gone way past that.

Did anyone watch the last two episodes of family guy? just weak IMO

Tim Budong 10-06-2011 05:01 PM

in a way, sundays on fox will suffer without the simpsons..
cuz family guy on its own isnt going to cut it for that network

Redlines_Daily 10-06-2011 05:11 PM

the people that voice the 6 main characters get $400,000 per episode

way2quik 10-06-2011 05:30 PM

Yep. Per season the voice actors/tresses get $8M.
I read somewhere along the lines of if they wish to keep the Simpsons on tv the voice actors need to take a 45% paycut.

donjalapeno 10-06-2011 05:31 PM

23 seasons x 20 episodes each (aprox) x $400,000 each episode = $18,400,000 :fulloffuck:

StylinRed 10-06-2011 05:39 PM

Simpsons has turned into mindless stories for a very longtime now if they want it to survive they should start making some real stories again; hire new writers if the old ones don't remember how to write a story

family guy has already become dreadful at least this years season opener was WTF

last weeks episode was ok but it seems that they're reaching/reached the same bore level as Simpsons many many years sooner

Sid Vicious 10-06-2011 05:49 PM

the new ones are actually pretty good. as in the most recent.

if it is cancelled...that means the end of an era. the simpsons is this generations shakespeare.

Up until 1998, the six main actors were paid $30,000 per episode. In 1998 they were then involved in a pay dispute in which Fox threatened to replace them with new actors and went as far as preparing for casting of new voices. However, the issue was soon resolved and from 1998 to 2004, they were paid $125,000 per episode. In 2004, the voice actors intentionally skipped several table reads, demanding they be paid $360,000 per episode.[17] The strike was resolved a month later[18] and until 2008 they earned something between $250,000[19] and $360,000 per episode.[20] In 2008, production for the twentieth season was put on hold due to new contract negotiations with the voice actors, who wanted a "healthy bump" in salary to an amount close to $500,000 per episode.[20] The dispute was soon resolved, and the actors' salary was raised to $400,000 per episode.[21]

Thank you for saying this, I'm so glad there are others that agree.

The Simpsons is in it's 23rd season!!! Come on, give it a rest! IMO it should have been cancelled after season 9. All the best stories, funniest most memorable moments, and best characters are from seasons 2-9.

This is coming from someone who grew up on the Simpsons, and my sense of humour was largely formed by that show. And I can watch those old episodes over and over and never get bored.

But this show needs to be GONE..like 13 YEARS AGO. It's unfunny and shitty and has been stretching out old shit exploiting any possible character and moment from the golden years. I even made a point NEVER to see the Simpsons Movie, because I KNOW it's SHIT without ever seeing it. I don't want to see rehashed bullshit and sit thru 90 minutes of it or however long it was.

Good riddance once this show is cancelled. It used to break my heart to say that, but GOOD LORD, The Simpsons has been comatose on life support for 13 years...be kind and fuckin pull the plug already and let them rest in peace.

winson604 10-06-2011 06:39 PM

I haven't followed or been excited for Simpsons since Highschool and I'm 29 now. Growing up I loved that shiet and after HS I just couldn't watch it anymore. Even when I tried it just wasn't the same for me. Sad to see it go on one hand but on another it's time.

firebird79_00 10-06-2011 06:41 PM

I still watch it, hate family guy though cant believe thats still alive.

akalic 10-06-2011 06:44 PM

Good. I hope they cancel the show. I cringe watching the new simpsons now. Season 3-8 FTW.

Noir 10-06-2011 07:17 PM

Shoulda been cancelled long ago. IMO, prolonging it the way they've been doing the last half decade only hurts the legacy, instead of adding to it.

Actually last season was pretty good, you can tell they really stepped it up. This season not bad so far either

wtf, those are some crazy numbers, I wonder how long does it take them to make one episode.

CorneringArtist 10-06-2011 08:01 PM

Back when the writing was still pretty good (late 90's-early 2000's I think?)
(This first one was my favorite moment ever)

drunkrussian 10-06-2011 08:10 PM

i heard they wanna cut the main actor's salary from 8 to 4 million. a 50% paycut after 23 years of employment is pretty weird
Posted via RS Mobile

SpartanAir 10-06-2011 08:19 PM

YA but how many fuckin million more do you need when you're already sitting on $25mil or more?

The actors are doing just fine...they should have stepped down gracefully when they saw the show was going down the shitter.

I think they have just as much responsibility as anyone. How can these same actors record the current episodes and be proud of themselves, and not look back at the old episodes and be like "what the fuck happened?"

I suppose when you're getting millions of dollars thrown at you, it's pretty easy to sell out and ramble off the BULLSHIT that the new "writers" give them.

All dignity is out the window already so fuck it...greenlight The Simpsons for another 5 seasons.

Graeme S 10-06-2011 08:20 PM

Fox is making a fuckton off of Syndicated Simpsons, but is saying that new eps are too expensive. They're gunning for a 45% pay cut for the VAs. The VAs are saying they're cool with a 30% pay cut, as long as they get a chunk of Syndication. I think that they should have aimed for a shot at Syndication long ago...think of it as a permanent retirement package.

urrh 10-06-2011 08:44 PM

i remember a time when i was 10 and bart was 10.
i'll still miss it when it's gone
