For those who thinking boiling is weird.
if you grew up in an environment where it is strongly suggested that you boil before you drink - your habits will never change.
it just doesn't feel "right" to be drinking directly from the tap (ie: there's a psychological barrier).

Usually straight from the tap but I have a bad habit of bottled water.

During the summer time I'll drink straight from the hose if I'm outside.

I'm assuming that is the case seeing as how many people still boil their water in Vancouver, though I'm not convinced it is a psychological issue any more than a stupidity issue.

As I said, my parents were raised in South Africa and although water is generally safe in most urban areas now, this certainly wasn't the case when they lived there 30 years ago. My parents boiled or chlorinated all of their water, but after moving to Canada this practice immediately ceased because it is unnecessary. Boiling water is not a habit like nail-biting or nose-picking, and to continue doing so, or worse, to teach your kids to do so, is ignorant.

Vancouver water is soft and has a very pure taste. Personally, I find it an affront to our cities excellent water systems for some idiots to boil their water, and perhaps they should be deported.

I agree with Amuro ... I just don't feel right drinking water straight from the tap. It's 'cause I grew up being taught that tap water could potentially be dirty. My grandparents, parents, uncles & aunts, heck my whole family always boiled water
My parents came from Vietnam ... and the water over there was pree dirty
Although the water's clean here, you never know lmfao. Better safe than sorry. Also, we have plenty of time to boil the water

Honestly you're making too big of a deal out of this.
Do you have life insurance? Just for the off chance that you might get struck by a bolt of lightening on your way out tomorrow? Well, some people do, should we deport those nonsensical paranoid idiots too?
Just because you don't care about the off chance that our (admittedly clean) drinking water may be contaminated, doesn't mean others are wrong to do so.

We should get deported cuz the water that WE drink, and the water that WE boil has some sort of adverse effect on you?

My first inclination was to suggest imprisonment or death, but thought deportation was a slightly more reasonable result.

I also take offense to V4NCITY taking offense to my labeling of water-boilers as idiots. Boiling water when not necessary is idiotic -- yes, you might have your little story which explains why you do it, but you cannot mitigate that doing something completely unnecessary is idiotic.

our water is safe to drink. if you ever drank from a water fountain. that's just the same as drinking out of a tap. lol

but there are impurities in it. probably from the gunk from the pipes. it won't kill you though.

Filtered and ionized. The chick at watermatters.com seems to know where each neighborhood gets it's water from and what type of things are found from each different resivior.
While our water is not flouridated it is chlorinated.
In a 1992 study that made front-page headlines, and was reported on in the July issue of the American Journal of Public Health researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee found that people who regularly drink tap water containing high levels of chlorine by-products have a greater risk of developing bladder and rectal cancers than people who drink unchlorinated water. The study estimates that about 9 percent of all bladder cancer and 18 percent of all rectal cancer cases are associated with long-term consumption of these by-products. This amounts to over 20,000 new cases each year.

That's correct -- all tap water contains chlorine as part of the sterilization process. Chlorine has a lower boiling point than H20, and hence it should be left in a vessel and allowed to evaporate. Chlorine doesn't have anywhere to evaporate to while in the piping system as, obviously, it's completely enclosed.

Boiling chlorinated water is a waste of time and energy. After boiling the chlorine is still there so is the flouride thus the taste is still there. The purpose of the chlorine is to kill pathogens and that it does with excellent results and very rare that there is more pathogens then the chlorine can deal with but I'll wager your fridge you store your now double purified water in has waaaaay more pathogens in it now settling into your water befor you drink it. Waste of time.
I personally dont like to ingest chlorine or flouride both proven bad for you and toxic so if at all possible I drink water from my cooler that is filled with filtered water sans chlorine and sans flouride. I do not buy "bottled" water unless going on a camping/quad trip even then I prefer beer.
