Or that he held on to the last minute to save the passengers. The nose end was never designed to take a high impact as there's no point during a crash. MIA usually means GG.

Thunderbird 204's first contact with YVR tower is at 7:30. He must've declared his situation earlier on a different frequency. He declines emergency services at this time.

At 9:00 he is cleared to land.

I'm assuming that the noise heard at the 11:00 mark is from the impact.

At the 11:20 mark, another plane is told that the runway is closed for the time being.

At 12:30 all taxis for departure are halted, emergency on the field is made public.

Russ Baker's gonna be closed for a while, screwing up all traffic heading in and out of Richmond... So you better head out early!

That picture of the passengers getting out of the plane is incredible. Everytime I hear of a plane crash I assume everyone is immediately dead. I take that road everyday for work, going to be interesting to see it tomorrow if it's open.

Hellz yeah. 26R was shut down for a good while and that probably made a good amount of congestion.

I thought that crash was at the end of 26L?
It wasn't officially shut down either, nothing was issued...

On the other hand...

NOBODY HAS LOST THEIR LIFE AS A RESULT OF THIS INCIDENT - INCLUDING THE FLIGHT CREW
Though in critical condition, there is always hope of full recovery!

Plane crash near Vancouver airport injures 11 - British Columbia - CBC News

anyway, I'm not sure, just guessing that because it was so close to the end of the runway there would be some interruption of it being used..

Glad I didn't have to go to class today, I'm at BCIT right across the street, woulda sucked trying to navigate through there.

edit, it seems it was actually closed for some time- 4:11 p.m.: Controller declares an aircraft has "pulled short" and "the runway is closed for the time being."

BillyBishop 10-27-2011 11:04 PM

110861 CYVR VANCOUVER INTL
CYVR RWY 08L/26R CLSD
1110280500 TIL 1110281300

26R is closed until 6am. There's nothing stopping 26L from being used... the accident was off the field.

CP.AR 10-27-2011 11:07 PM
