| Formal Resteraunt In Vancouver/Burnaby/Richmond?
Its my friend's sixteenth birthday in a couple of weeks, and she has a trouble of deciding where to go. She wants somewhere formal, nothing like boston pizza. It would be nice if it was skytrain and/or bus assessable. Any feed back would be appreciated
EDIT: sorry about the spelling mistakes it was late.
shes paying.
yes she is a foodie
shes been at moxies, various sushi places, red robins etc
not sure her budget
she was looking into more white food? she doesnt like asian food
SECOND EDIT: i think her parents are supplying the mooola. and i would estimate 20 people or less are going. nothing huge. at her 15th party it was around 15 ish? all females tho. also this party will be mixed gender.

I don't know anything about your "friend"... But there are tons of restaurants where they can enjoy... Such as Joeys, Milestones, Earls, Moxies, Cactus, etc. All in few blocks away from skytrain station in Downtown.
Formal dinner at Boston Pizza?

I'm not sure how formal one can get on a 16 year old's budget.
Seriously.
Are you looking for fine dining options? If so, list out how much each person (in general) is willing to pay.

Pics of friend?
Realistically, at sixteen, your friends palate and those of the people who would be accompanying her aren't refined enough to enjoy a true formal restaurant. Stick to something more relaxed like Cactus Club, Earls or the Keg.

Is she a foodie?
Where has she been?
What's your budget?
What kind of budget are you looking at?
Has she friend zoned you yet?
What style of food? Mediterranean? West Coast? French?
What kind of pretentiousness? Milestones? Cactus? Casino AYCE? Uppity? Marcello Pizzaria?
I can probably help you out in terms of where to go, but you're going to have to help me narrow down the criteria...

your best bet's probably yaletown if it has to be close to skytrain. lots of selection there.
too bad it's in a couple of weeks though. taste of yaletown ends this month. but they'll probably still have similar price fixed menus though.

Italian Kitchen
or
Someplace downtown like yaletown would be appropriate but don't know if it suits your budget.

So I see in your edit that "she's paying".
Does that mean she is paying for herself or paying for everyone?
I can't imagine that she is paying for everyone as I don't know many 16 year olds that can even do that even at the barest of restaurants.
If you guys were good friends, you would split her bill among all of you since its her birthday.
Anyways back to topic, if you don't know her budget and its white food you guys want, go to a typical joint like the keg, joey's, cactus club...
I recently had a boys night out at The Rogue and its right at Waterfront Skytrain station. It was a great place to eat and we had one of the best waitresses I've ever had.
You can try there since it's a pretty casual place but substantially more formal than boston pizza.

Yeah...
There is just so much to choose from. Not liking Asian food will jump up the price for sure.
A chain place like robbins, earls, cactus, joeys and you can get away with $20, no drinks.
If you bump that up to under $35, then you're starting to look at some nicer one-off restaurants. I hate to have my haunts flooded with people, but might as well since you're asking.... Grub, Les Faux Bourgeois, Greedy Pig, Pied a Terre...
Actually, come to think of it, one of the most affordable places with consistent good food is X-Site Grill in burnaby. But you can get away with $15 per person!
I'm there all the time.

Your post was decent until this point.
I wouldn't have 16 year olds eat french food though. I doubt they'll know what they're eating AND they won't appreciate the cooking.

And like I said, I have no idea what their budget is like so I just covered all sorts of price ranges.
I dare you to find me a burger platter combo as good for under $10 at a sit down restaurant. I've looked around, haven't found one yet.

If your friend has a cute older sister I might be persuaded to to feed you guys
Seriously though, you're going to have to help us narrow it down.
Some of us foodies have a never ending list of places to go...
West, Market, Vij's, Italian Kitchen, Coast.... etc...

No normal parents shells out $$ for their daughter of 16 to throw her own party at a formal/semi-formal place. If the parents do that kind of stuff, then maybe they want the party to go out in style at a fancy place?

I think she just wants to go somewhere where they can all dress up (well as much at 16 years olds can anyway) and not stand out like a bunch of dorks. I get where she's coming from, since 16 year olds can't exactly go out to clubs to dress up or whatever.
Maybe that will help get some better recommendations.
