Help.. Flash drive seems to be not working, how to fix

So I have a Sandisk 8GB Cruzer Micro.
its over a year old now, so i think the warranty is over...

usually when i plug it in, the orange light goes on and windows makes a sound whenever you plug any USB device in..

now the light goes on for 1sec and goes out, windows still makes the sound but nothing.. I looked in the device manager to see if its there, nothing..

I read around online that the HP Key Boot Utility was suppose to fix it by doing a low level format on the USB drive... i got a hold of it but it doesnt detect it..

Anyone know how to fix this? I would like to avoid having to rebuy another flash drive if i can fix this..

Thanx

At this point, unfortunately you don't fix, you throw it away.

It's probably hooped. You could try cleaning the metal contacts on the key. An eraser will do the job.

Yeah might as well replace it since it's worth like $10 or less these days.

my 4 year old flash drive does the same thing. plug it in, nothing happens, comp doesnt detect it.

it's fucked.

it's cheap (by todays standards and prices), but what's important is the info on it. not the actual drive.

sigh. i threw it away and bought a 32 gig. lol.
