You're even advised against turning on your heater full blast first thing in the morning.

If doing this in -40C in Ottawa doesn't crack the window, I'm not worrying about -10C in Vancouver.

seriously you can't scrape just cause its cold and its the easiest/cheapest way to defrost? hell even my mom n sisters do that stuff. Be a man

I dont mind buying the car cover, as Ive mention...
Wait... you don't want to use cardboard, because then you'd have to find somewhere to store it... what do you think you're going to do with the car cover when you take it off? Or were you just going to drive around with it still on?

- heated mirrors (frost free in 30 secs)
- heated washer fluid (warm enough to melt frost in 60 secs)

Doesn't help with the side windows, yet usually rolling them down does the trick.

Heck, even our '96 Grand Caravan had heated mirrors.

I saw a project something like 25 years ago that added a pipe looping through the washer-fluid tank and tapped into the cooling system to let the coolant warm up the washer fluid. I believe there are electric heaters you can get to add in to existing washer tanks, too.

^ bitch please, 1987 Toyota Celica had heated mirrors.

My windshield has a crack in it that runs along right above the defroster vent, it happened after I parked but I assume some snow fell on it when it was still hot and bam, cracked glass.

Some cars have them, yet most don't. If you can retrofit them, they are fantastic. I always hated scraping mirrors, cause most scrapers are too big for the mirrors, or you change the mirror a bit then have to re-adjust.

StylinRed 11-07-2011 06:40 AM

ot but final gen of the jdm celica had heated mirrors, climate control, hids, navigation etc stock the NA one only had hids as an option nothing else :(

doesnt hot water own your wax job if it gets on the car

I usually put beach towels over my windshield and rear window at night or whenever i park my car. All i gotta do in the morning is take those towels n put em back in the garage to dry. Warm up my car for about a min or so and BAM good to go!

Then go for it. Some cars have better glass than others.

Greenstoner 11-07-2011 01:54 PM

start my car --> take out scraper ---> walk around your vehicle to do a simple inspection and to admire your own car ---> light up a smoke --> scrape

good to go

1990TSI 11-07-2011 04:56 PM

Remove windshield, roll down windows at night.

problem solved.

oldsnail 11-09-2011 10:21 PM

i use my 'WELCOME' mat from the front of my home.. i can just put the mat back at the front of the door when i am done with it while slapping it on my window (under the wiper) when i need it

Neva 11-09-2011 10:37 PM

i realized i gave my ice scrapers away to my mom and sister and didn't plan to keep one in my car because i dont' drive in the winter but i was late for work and decided to drive.

well the only thing i had my house that could scrape it was a plastic yellow ruler, and it worked fucking awesomely. i mean my hands got cold, but i'm not a bitch

If you're in desperate need for a scraper of some sort, open your wallet. Just use a credit/debit card, your license, whatever.

xilley 11-10-2011 08:33 AM

I've used it before, but the ruler covers a lot more area than a credit card. I'm keeping that ruler in my car over the winter
