| What do you guys use your Tablets for?
For some reason I find myself wanting to buy one more and more, and now the transformer is on sale at NCIX. I'm not really looking for a reason to buy one, however I would like to know why you guys own one.
What do you use it for?
I do travel a bit like 2 or 3 times a year, and go out of town for work about once a month, I have my work netbook that I take with me for work purposes. Other than work no real reason for me to be connected to my email all the time. I occasionally browse the web but mostly use my computer for downloading. I had originally thought i can buy one and have a mount for it in my car to use as a media device??!?!?!

I use it for the news, streaming, taking notes in class + drawing graphs, usual Internet use and email. It's portability is what got me hooked. Posted via RS Mobile |

transformer was on sale at Memory Express for like $289 w/ keyboard and with the introduction of Prime I can see the 1st gen go down on price in the near future, if you aren't looking for latest and greatest.

If I'm not on my desktop I'm on my tablet. The only time I use my laptop now is if I need to do actual work.

I've got an Acer Andriod.
I use mine to do banking, email and check into the office when I'm traveling or out of the office for what ever reason since the battery life can get me through a whole day easy and it fits in my larger purses easily.
It's also great for when travelling, I can kill time on it nicely between netflix and suduko or angry birds and e-reading.
At home I use it as a portable TV a lot of the time, streaming netflix in the kitchen while I'm cooking (which makes baking so much more enjoyable) or out on the deck in the summer while I'm gardening or what have you, or watching a movie in bed. I also use it as my e-reader and enjoy having the color option, now I get a lot of online magazines to it.
My daughter uses it largely for games and video and music, which I load it up with for long car rides so she can entertain herself while I'm driving.
We both use it to Skype a lot as well, both video, audio and chat (this is super handy when traveling if you get free wifi in your room).

I use it mainly for surfing. If you're a useless information junkie like me, tablets are a godsend. There are a lot of apps out there that are amazing for surfing such as Flipboard, Instapaper, and Zite.
When I'm watching a football game, having the tablet with me and surfing in between plays = best god damn thing on earth. If you even think of having one, get it. You won't be disappointed.

I don't even use my computer anymore unless I need to design something for work or download music/movies.
At home the tablet comes out for everything such as surfing internet, reading comics and checking my sports pools every 5 minutes haha.

I only use my desktop if I need to. From web surfing, watching HD videos, bits of streaming, youtube, laying in bed, my tablet does it all, unless I want to play video games or make a purchase then I'd go to my PC.

Tablet took over 90% of my surfing time on my PC/Mac. Basically when gaming, watching movies, dramas, etc. and suddenly you need some FAQ/Info/Bio it's there by your side. I tried doing that with a MBP/A and it does not work well with 1 hand or on your lap.
It's helpful at work too, as a giant financial cal, stock watcher, multi-blog tracker (Pulse/Flipboard), extra touch screen display (even if you have a 3 screen setup). Ironically, its only so-so for games for me as I feel my hands ache after ~30 mins or so jabbing at it (too used to tactile feedback from controllers since the 80s? lol)

I'm using my phone as my multi-media remote control...
Change songs, volume up etc...
When I get a tablet, I'll be using it to pick vidoes and shows from my couch.
It's a lot cheaper than getting a Logitech Harmony

It depends on the person I guess. I try to stay away form the desktop and only use my laptop. It didn't work out too well. I just like having a bigger monitior and an actually keyboard to use.
Also try using a tablet to do simple things but just didn't work out. I am just too much of a desktop person I guess......... my desktop is on the second I got home and stays on till I go to bed.
I would think a laptop/tablet is useful if you have to travel a lot or your job is always on the go. To me I think tablet is more or less another toy I can play with but not really useful.

Thanks everyone, I passed on the opportunity on picking up a 32g transformer from ncix for $420, im hoping better deals on on their way since the holiday season is upon us. I always use my desktop but when im out and about i guess it would be easier using a tablet. I can always tether my phone data to it (mobilicity ftw). I guess if the price is right ill give it a shot.

basic browsing, web comics and occasional games. forums and e-mail I sometimes browse quickly on there, but actually posting or replying to email is painful on a touchscreen. it's great to leave on the coffee table for quick browsing and searching while watching TV

I use it for reading comics, books, surfing the web, and the occasional game. Comes in real handy too when I want to check something on my desktop when I'm not at home. Now that I have unlimited data on my smartphone I always have my tablet with me to use whereever I need it.
I used to use it for taking notes in school as well. My prof gave us the class handouts in a .pdf and I didn't really feel like printing 200 pieces of paper. I got an Adonit Jot and used that to write on it. It's really one of the best styluses out there. Also had all of my textbooks in it too . Saved me the money + trouble of carrying around text books.

iPad does everything a computer does or at least everything i used a computer for. My netbook crashed and I hav'nt bothered fixing it, it's been 1.5 years of tablet only use and it's going great! Emails, movies, forums, and Internet surfing, banking, notes, shopping lists, music, work diagrams and presentations, you name it it does it and you can take it wit you easily. Don't know if there are faster better tabs out there but I'm running top line apple and it's amazing, and if there's faster ...simply wow.

I was also tempted to buy one recently but decided to wait a bit. I like the portability of a tablet but dislike the fact that some of them lack USB connections. When traveling I like to bring my laptop and a portable hard drive to back-up my pictures, I don't think this is something that a tablet can do...yet. Also I'm too used to having a keyboard. I'm using an older Thinkpad, the X60; I had bought it primarily for it's portability, though it's still over 2x heavier than an ipad 2 and the battery doesn't last nearly long enough, for the most part it does most of the things people mentioned on this thread without being as heavy as a traditional notebook.

I use it for watching tv while traveling, or while working in my test office. Browsing the web or tweeting while in the living room on occasion, and playing the occasional throwaway game. Posted via RS Mobile |
