| 11.11.11 - Lest We Forget
It's Remembrance Day here in Canada and Veteran's Day for our neighbors to the south. Hope you all take a moment today to remember the sacrifices your countrymen made for you in WWI, WWII, Korea, Gulf War, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Libya.... and right here at home. Our latest causality is Sgt. Janick Gilbert, a Search and Rescue Technician who was lost at sea when he and two other SARTech's jumped into freezing waters in the extreme north near Igloolik, Nunavut to save two people stranded in a boat. They got them out; he gave his life to save theirs.
Lest we forget. |

Holding a sign and protesting is not "making a difference" in this world.
Putting your life on the line for someone you have never met, That is making a difference in the world. That simple act deserves the upmost respect.
Thank you to all those who have fought for the rights of someone they have never met.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I hope you guys each took a minute out of your long weekend to remember the people that gave you the freedom to enjoy your day. Sometimes it feels as if people today take days like this as "TIME TO PARTY AT THE LOCAL NIGHTCLUB AND GET SOME ASS" kind of day - which is pretty selfish.

I have a buddy fighting in Afghanistan right now and I just want to thank him for doing what he's doing and everyone else who has risked their lives to make our world a better please by giving us the freedom we take granted for.
For me this is the most important holiday we have cause with out the risks and lives that were given we would not have the life we live today

A salute to the soldiers that make sacrifices, including their lives, for our freedom. A thumbs down to the federal government for cutting $226 million from the Veteran Affairs government department. That's no way to treat the vets who risked their lives for Canadians. It pissed me off to hear about this news about the rising number of homeless war veterans: Number of homeless vets rising - News1130

In Ontario there isn't a holiday for today ... Kind of weird
And one of my best buddies will soon be joining the Canadian forces... I'm pretty scared and nervous for him.
I do not respect anyone more than our Canadian troops. They are some bad ass mother fuckers!

I cried over my Grandfathers War Medals today. Thankful for what he did for his country and sad that he's gone.

Watched a bit of the Vancouver ceremonies and saw representatives of the Russian Navy lay a reef. My parents, as children of the Cold War era, never thought they'd see something like that.
Canada was never "officially" involved in the Vietnam War, but many Canadians like my father served and still are not recognized here or in the states. It wouldn't take much but some short words. Posted via RS Mobile |

LEST WE FORGET.
The only group that I think don't really celebrate this day in Canada are Native people.

Quite a few Natives volunteered to fight in the wars.
