The Bald Eagles are coming back! I will be at Tapadera Estates around 9:00am on Saturday and possibly also on Sunday if anyone is interested. I'll have the 500mm f4L with me.

This looks fascinating. From yours experience is 300mm enough?

300mm on a crop body would be okay IMO. The bare minimum would be 200mm.

picked up a 400mm, prime. if it's tomorrow is decent, i may go scout it out. pouring rain and long shots don't mix well.

^^^yep.

so...just got back from a bit of a scouting trip out to Mission. saw hundreds of dead fish(Chum) from spawning. this was about a 1/2 a kilometer past the golf course(SandPiper). 1/2 the fish were dead, the other, flip flopping around. i would have expected to have seen eagles all over the place, nothing.

i spoke to at least 1/2 dozen fisherman, and they said they haven't seen a lot of them.

i managed to see one sitting around, but couldn't get very close:

i'm going to guess the eagle count will be down this year. i saw a few, but WAY in the distances.

on the way back just past Deroche, by the slough, i saw one and hit the brakes and pulled out my camera, but only got an out of focus but beauty in flight pose adult, damn!this pic is barely cropped, it would have been by far my best eagle but if you saw it full size, blech.

i was going to check out the Tapadera Estates, but it's a gated community, and there was no way of getting in without a gate card.

anyways, there's a banner on every corner light standard in Mission advertising the Eagle Festival, signs all over the place. and yes, it was not only cold, but howling winds! friggin horrible winds.

edit: these would be awesome on a day like today!
