To Troll A Predator

looks like the guys from the youtube clips had to stop what they're doing..
Chilliwack teens recreate To Catch a Predator - News1130

Quote:

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) - Three teenagers in Chilliwack are in trouble with police, after producing hidden-camera style crime fighting videos and posting them on YouTube. Using websites like Plenty of Fish and Craigslist, they lured men to local McDonald's restaurants and other locations in town, believing they were meeting a 15-year-old girl.

The teen confronting the man would be dressed in a superhero costume, usually appearing as Batman. In one video a second superhero, The Flash, is also seen.

The videos appear to be based on NBC's To Catch a Predator series, which aired a few years ago. The teens called their series "To Troll a Predator."

"What I can tell you is that our Serious Crimes Unit is currently investigating," says Corporal Tammy Hollingsworth with Chilliwack RCMP. "They have spoken with one of the three boys responsible so far. We will be conducting two other interviews today of the other two boys."

Two of the boys are 17-years-old, the other is 18. All of them live in the Chilliwack area and they apparently produced four crime fighting videos.

"They have taken down all of the posts on YouTube and have made a statement on their Facebook page. I don't think they really realized the scope of this and what the consequences could have been" says Hollingsworth.

"Our main issue as far as the police go right now is their [the teens] personal safety. This is why we intervened at this point and did what we had to do."

"We have not even spoken about charges yet. We don't even know, really, what we have. At this point, charges are not being considered."

Hollingsworth says the teens have posted the following on the "To Troll a Predator" Facebook page, explaining why the videos have been taken down.

"The future of our channel is unknown. Due to police intervention we will be discontinuing the To Troll a Predator series. I hope those who viewed the videos shared many laughs with us while we could. Hope you can understand."

The officer says none of the men seen in the video series have been identified.

Oh well. :okay:

Was funny while it lasted.

I love how the guys doing this could be in trouble, but we are just fine with old men meeting 15 year old girls online...

what a fucking world we live in
i literally see nothing wrong with what they're doing. who the fuck cares that their exposing these fucks to the public.
i dont see how they could be charged with anything. yeah i understand they should be "advised" to stop because their personal safety is at risk, but if they choose to do this, i dont see why anybody would stop them.

good on these kids

JesseBlue 11-15-2011 03:39 PM

the police/rcmp i somewhat disturbed because its taking jobs away from them....

seriously this is how canada is...protect the villains and charge people who are "innocent"

At first when I watched these videos, I was anxious to see these perverts getting caught, exposed and arrested for being pedophiles. However, after watching ALL the videos, I realized that this was merely for entertainment and NOT for "Fighting crime."

In all the videos, you can barely see the perpetrators so public shame isn't really being used as a deterrent for these guys. Neither are criminal/legally consequences since none of these guys contacted any law enforcement authorities.

Although it's meant to be funny, "catching a predator" isn't a joke and these guys could've taken steps to make sure that these guys get caught rather than being free out on the streets, working with children, living with children, preying on children.

In the end, the police do not have the authority to stop them from continuing on with their work. I'm sure it was a personal decision the "superheroes" made to stop so that they don't get in any trouble from their parents or have any more run-in's with the police. After all, they are just kids, they could themselves be victims and if these pedophiles are willing to risk their entire lives on meeting some young underage boy or girl, I'm sure they are capable of things that could possibly harm the "superheroes." I'm sure the "investigation" right now is more or less to do with the method they used to lure these guys and how solid their tactics were to go forth with identifying and pressing charges against the perpetrators

StylinRed 11-15-2011 03:46 PM

i dont think you guys read the police concerns... they're concerned for the safety of the teens and are not considering charges

as was said in the nsfw thread; they don't know what they're in for when they lure a pedo out.... how the guy reacts could be tragic for Batman, Flash, and Jimmy Olsen

In Canada it's innocent till proven guilty. What if one of the guys was killed or the man they are trolling kills himself.

Tim Budong 11-15-2011 03:48 PM

their safety is at risk every time they head out to make a video
seeing that these kids are all minors also raises a concern

You know why to catch a predator in the states got canceled?

Excelsis 11-15-2011 04:13 PM

yes :troll:

NBC News canceled production of future episodes in December 2008, because the show became so popular that it became harder to attract potential predators on site to the location of where it would be filmed.

In Canada, it's perfectly legal for an adult to go out with a 14 year old girl. Is it ethical? probably not, but you won't go to jail like you do in the states.

the legal age of consent is now 16 has been for a couple years.

parm104 11-15-2011 04:40 PM

Even with a camera crew and someone who is publicly known, conflicts can arise and people may find themselves in dangerous situations.

Case in point:

...Who's talking about "going out?" Sex was mentioned in some of the stings and implied in all of them...Is that legal too?

Isn't 15 the legal age to have sex?
So advertising a 14 year old girl or one year below whatever the legal age is would be more appropriate?

And WHERE are these videos? They sound pretty hilarious

jerche 11-15-2011 05:34 PM

^it's 16 now...it WAS 14 awhile back

They are doing this for the protection of the kids, not for the perverts

InvisibleSoul 11-16-2011 07:49 AM

At first, I thought it was going to be because they falsely identified themselves as being the police... glad that isn't the case.

The7even 11-16-2011 08:15 AM

So.. a few years ago, it was NOT pedophilia to fuck a 14 year old because that was.. fine..

But now, if you go below 16, you're a pedo.

get out of here. I'm all against child exploitation but this is stupid.
