| Data Recovery!!!
so i have a small external 2.5inch WD HDD...
it's pretty old, like maybe 4-5 years old.
I hardly ever use it, but i put it in a few months ago and it just starts clicking.
fuck i know that sound.
so basically it's dead.
but i have some pretty important information on there, and im willing to pay decent money to recover it.
now... there's a buncha companies that recover data when i google it, but im also reading most of them are not professional.
u guys know any PROFESSIONAL data recovery? with good rep.
i know a few years back it was ridiculously expensive, and prices have dropped since then... there's gotta be a few out there? what about locally? canada? I don't mind shipping the drive to the states if i have to.

| 1st Data Recovery, clean room data recovery service.
I recommend them all the time even at work. Lots of success stories from some very important people here in Vancouver.

I can do it for you. But first, you'll have to take a seat right over there

We all know a 4GB memory card isn't exactly 4GB....somewhere in the 3.xx range.
And I'm pretty sure the memory card wasn't at 100% full.
Would they charge you the $250 price? or $500 price?

Put it in a freezer professionally after putting it professionally in ziploc bag.

The file list the gave me was no better than the GetDataBack software that I used instead. I think GetDataBack is now called Recover My Files.
That software recovered everything they said they could, and was only $70.
I wouldn't recommend 1st Data Recovery to anyone unless a) they had an extra $400 lying around or b) they weren't technically inclined enough to plug in a hard drive and run the software.

Or did they all die at the same time??

The reason why I often tell clients to go to 1stdatarecovery (or any professional data recovery shops) is because I don't want to be liable to damages, or because they really want their files back.
I have GetDataBack for NTFS and FAT as well. The program works very well. But there are often times where people really want their files back and don't want to try out these software at the risk of further damaging the drives.
At this point, you have to decide if you want to take a chance, or leave the chance with someone else.

However, usually I tell my friends/family that I can do it for free, but there's no guarantee on what I can get back. Or they could pay someone $500, and there's still no guarantee what they'll get back. To some it's worth it, to some it isn't I guess. Quote:

Put the drive in a ziploc bag and make sure the seal is tight since you don't want ANY moisture getting in. After it's chilled, take it out and plug it in again to see if it reads any better.
The first time I did that, I didn't even use a ziploc bag, just put it straight in the freezer.. that was a pretty huge fail.

The method doesn't save the disk, it just give you a bit of time for you to transfer what you need on the disk.

Did the freezer trick a couple of times to transfer data off. Worked pretty well but once the drive heated up again it stopped working so I put the drive next to the AC and got most of the files back.
