Already said "screw the installer disk" and did the manual connection. It's ready, but I'm STILL connecting to the Siemens, and if I shut that off, I don't have Internet. Where the hell do I go from here, I can recover my network info if it ever goes down, but I've never set up a router. Keep in mind I don't have a dekstop computer (that works anyways), and everything was done by hardwiring my laptop to the Siemens to get to the DLink router menu.

How are you connecting the D-Link to the Siemens? You should at the very least be connecting the D-Link's WAN port to one of the Siemens' LAN ports, and leaving the D-Link's WAN settings to DHCP - its WAN should show a 192.168.1.* IP from the Siemens. That should give you a working outgoing connection.

Properly, especially if you want to configuring incoming traffic (port forwarding), you should be setting the Siemens to Bridge mode first, so it operates as JUST a modem, not a modem/router.

That means the router will now get a 10.* IP from Telus' internal network; you'll need to go through the process of registering the D-Link's WAN MAC address with your Telus account...

OR, the Siemens should list its own WAN MAC on a sticker on it, or in the setup somewhere, so you can copy that into the MAC Clone section in the D-Link, and it will get the same internet IP you had before.

And yes, screw the installer disk.

You can also try assigning the dlink to the dmz. This should help bypass most of the routing features.

Telus Router SSID changed to RCMP ARE CORRUPT LOLGGNORE

Hi guys

I had the same issue this morning. Telus support (not in Canada - the guy didn't know what RCMP meant) tells me it is a Trojan that I had on my computer, that it changed the SSID from the computer side, not from the outside, and that this happened to various people with various brands of routers.

Strange.. Security Essentials reported nothing.

Admittedly I had recently reset my Siemens Gigaset SE 567 to default, meaning that the user name was ADMIN and the password "telus" and the address the standard 192.168.1.254. From my lay man's perspective it seems much more plausible that someone used those data from the outside, just randomly doing hits and misses. Why has the only other person I heard of that has this issue have the exact same router with the exact same settings?

Anyway, I reset the router, changed the password and I'm back online. If there is a directive to replace Siemens routers the support guy had not heard of it. Then again, it may take a while for that kind of information to penetrate all levels of support in the Far East.

I would be happy to get the Siemens router replaced - the quality of the connection fluctuates badly and it needs a reset regularly.

Keith did you want to get yours replaced as well? Please send me your number associated with the line, and a way for me to contact you as well as your address. PM is key.

I had an issue with my Telus Siemens SE567, the SSID was reset by itself to "GigasetSE567" so none of my wireless devices could find or connect to it. I totally forgot the default password was "telus" to get into the settings and the password I had changed it to wasn't working, so I had to call in to Telus.

The rep I talked to said, oh it must have reset itself due to an automatic firmware update, now I have no clue if that was just a bs excuse or not, but from reading this thread it sounds like I should pull my Linksys router out of storage and turn the wireless off the Siemens one.

Excellent router - I have three of them. Most hardware versions are DD-WRT flashable, too.

Optik doesn't use that modem/router.
