I bought this car for the sole reason to commute from steveston (richmond) to cloverdale for school and with the economy of the diesel it was the ideal car!
1996 Golf CL 1.9TD , Red in color

**id estimate the car has around 281-282k on it.

Jetta Trek seats
Alpine CD player
Thule roof rack
Newer timing belt (i bought the car with 271k on it, i did the timing belt at 272k)
<5k on Front & Rear brakes
<5k on new front wheel bearings
<15k on new suspension front and rear (amazinly comfortable ride...)
<1k brand new glo plugs
<5k on new driver side axle

passed aircare with flying colors
very small spot of rust on the rear hatch... thats the extent of the rust on this car
THE BAD
a car with this age and mileage there are obviously some things that are gonna need attention....
-The transmission has a "clicking" type of noise in reverse. reverse works like it should besides the noise. i did a flush of fluid and no change.
-Speedo does not work (every once in awhile it comes to life but very very briefly... loose connection?) everything else works tacho..etc..
-Heat does not work (at running temperature heat does come from the vents and heats the car up, i pulled the controls out from the dash to find the cables attatching the fan controls to the motor etc have been disconnected. i was told by PO the heater core was done, but no proof. i bought a new fan motor, and new dash control unit)
The car is a solid solid runner. perfect for a student or a mechanically inclined person with a few hours to sort out a few issues. never left me stranded and still started with no problems with 4 burnt out plugs.
2100$ I think ive priced this quite well, but ill entertain
REASONABLE offers. will also trade for a nice set of 5x100 wheels for my mk4
if theres no interest ill be fixing the quirks and relisting in spring for more. im by no means desperate to move her!
Ill take new photos when i get the chance. but this is the car prior to the jetta seats and the passat hammers
Also the Craigslist Ad has a few photos from the summer...there is also a photo of when i removed the seats prior to putting in the jetta trek seats. i cleaned it spotless inside.
