@Flagella: exactly. I thought the whole movement was upset because the "1%" were in collusion to make it difficult or impossible for the bottom "99%" to be able to break into their level of wealth, and that the process of them holding the doors shut was destroying the economic climate for the "99%" and potentially pushing them deeper into poverty. I thought they were mad because the "1%" were wrecking the system and making off with all the spoils, so that even if the "99%" were to 'work their asses off' it wouldn't be possible for them to achieve levels of wealth or security anymore, and thus they are screwed. That's not what it's about? |
Two of the issues being made aware of by the Occupy Movement is that 1) there is a large number of unemployed/underemployed people 2) increasing income/wealth gap, and both these issues will hurt society in the longterm. It doesn't matter the reason - whether it's globalization or "greedy" corporations increasing the wealth gap, or the "laziness" of today's youth as many people are contending. If you can't find it in yourself to care about unemployment from a compassionate perspective, surely you can look at it from a selfish one and agree something must be done. |

its survival of the fittest like Ulic said, get with the program or move out of the way. people bitch and whine, but if you live in a developed country, guess what your already close to being the 1% of the world (523,000$ net worth puts u in that bracket) |

The other side of this example is: All 10 men works for the same company in a self-sustaining economy: The first 5 men works 40 hours a week making $20,000 The 6th men works 50 hours a week making $30,000 The 7th men works 60 hours a week making $70,000 The 8th men works 60 hours a week making $100,000 The 9th men works 40 hours a week making $200,000 The 10th men works 10/80 hours a week making $2,000,000+ The first 5-6 men are your typical min wage jobs The 7th, 8th and 9th men are the hardworking middle class, e.g. accountant, nurse, engineer, managers The 10th men are the ultra riches, investment banker...these people either sit back and enjoy their huge return on investment, or work 2x-3x harder than everyone else, but make makes 20x-30x more than money than everyone else) To add to the point, the first 9 men works to provide real benefits to the society, they build, they provide healthcare, service, food, basic necessity The 10th men's job was to provide liquidity for the economy....but in the past few years, they turned the economy into a giant casino. They made a lot more money, but it didn't bring any real benefits to the society. Instead, the tenth men fucked up... Their casino blew up and it destroyed many people's jobs and lives. Everyone are now poorer and earn 20% less money EXCEPT for the tenth men who is now earning more money than before. So why is it surprising that the other 9 man are pissed off at the tenth? |
