Shelving

Looking for ideas I may not have thought of. I have a storage room that is 55x55" and I'd like to do a U pattern of shelves, each shelf 16" high with 6 shelves in total. I want to maximize the storage space in this room, so using precut shelves or shelving units won't work well.

I've priced out wire shelves, Ikea Goram and Ivar shelves (then cutting to fit), and its going to cost me $500 to complete this. I'm looking for a more economical way of building these shelves.

Ideas?

You could always get some lumber and go with wall shelf brackets. (L shaped ones)

Maybe try dicks lumber? Ikea is overpriced on most things.

EDIT: Looked up Ikea Gorm and Ivar. Expensive, but they are nice.
I have a few similar units that I picked up at Superstore maybe 5 years ago and they were cheaper than Ikea. Not as pretty, but gets the job done.

EDIT: Also looked up Craigslist.

Looks like you could potentially save some $$$

Just buy brackets and MDF shelves from home depot. Cut the Shelves to length and install. The MDF shelves come in different colors and lengths and widths.

Thanks, yet per foot the wire shelving is cheaper than this, and the brackets cheaper too.

The problem is I need 5x55" and 2x5x43" shelves to pull off the U, plus all the supports. At a minimum that's 15 x $13 == $195 + brackets + tax == ~$300.
Seems like a lot of $$$ to invest in storage, yet looks like that's the cheapest/best way to maximize the space.
