We on this forum are ALL aware of NCIX, NewEgg and Memory Express, yet we continue to shop at Future Shop...Because it's convenient. I've gone into Future Shop before, bought a laptop and walked out. I put my foot down, was firm and told the guy I want the laptop and I want to go. Instead of being "polite" and continuing to say "No I don't think I'll get the warranty" why not just say "I'm going to leave, it's your choice if I leave with or without the laptop."

that is why we need Fry's up in Canada. CRAZY ASS SELECTION...killer pricing (most of the time) AND futureshop/bestbuy return policies.

FS is terrible, one time I walked in there looking for a monitor and I guess I didn't fit their description of someone who would buy something so I straight up grabbed the box from the top shelf myself and as I went to the front to pay some idiot then comes and asks if I wanted an extended warranty or help carrying it, I was like nope and walked away. That start up fee is bs too, the set up is so straightforward on most computers.

I don't know if they have any standards when hiring, but from the looks of it, they really don't. I heard the bosses at LD are also douches so maybe that's why the workers are the same. Why would anyone work there under shitty conditions is beyond me. It must be for the benefits or something.

I've had good experiences at some stores, bad at others.

^Same applies to Futureshop for me =S I've only had good experiences at the Coquitlam Center store, and nothing overly bad at the others. Maybe it's just cause I tend to not need the associates' help but yea...

The extended warranties aren't overly bad, it's more the willingness of the reps that you talk to that're the issue. I've an extended warranty from Dell on a laptop ($50 for 3 years on top of the 1 year factory, and another year for Nvidia screwing up on their 8000 series chips) and it has paid itself off a few times already. It's usually a good investment on appliances and some electronics/computers. I've run into some people with really shitty luck on their expensive appliances, and the normal out-of-warranty repair bills and markup on the repair parts are pretty hefty.

This depends greatly on location. There are a few stores with people who are enthusiasts and really know their stuff, and quite a lot of others which are staffed with hacks just making a living. Some stores' techs are a joke though. Find a store with good staff and stick with that store or salesperson. I've seen corporate customers follow managers from store to store to ensure good service.

As a salesperson I never hesitate to say "I don't know" to a customer. It is better for the customer to see that you are honest and willing to admit your lack of knowledge about certain things rather than to try and come up with a bullshit answer that they will see through easily.

You can also turn it into a learning experience with the customer as you two do some research on the internet or on brochures or product sheets.

just buyy a 8 gb usb download win7 recovery disk and save it to the usb then at startup run advance boot options then repair computer and it should work fine

gary92 12-11-2011 05:29 PM

i never get any help when i go to futureshop or bestbuy.

i went into futureshop about a month ago to buy a new printer. i walk into the printer section, a employee sees me, doesn't bother to help me but watches like a hawk from a few rows down. i quickly pick up the printer i wanted and run to the cashier to pay so he cant pull anything and try to get commission:awwyeah:

My dad who doesnt speak english very well went with another dumb friend and got scammed with start up fee.

I went to return the laptop because I got a better one for him and I found out.
Went on a bitch trip to get the money back and they gave me a list of what they did.

Some of the shit on the list is bs:
Check if any dent or scratches
Check dead pixels
Check if system turns on
install windows
install firewall
optimize startup

All bullshit to milk money. And I flipped out because I did the windows setup for my dad, and there was no fucken firewall installed.
Bitched for like 30 minutes and there like we did it and they called a tech to see if they did install it. And they didnt
I ended up getting 3/4 of the fee back.

^ that happened to me before.. guy said there would be a huge line up front

:fuckthatshit:

threezero 12-11-2011 08:59 PM

u guys didn't let the guy ring you up becuz u don't wnat them to have commission?

u are not paying for the commission. U don't like the extra service than fine just say no. Don't have to be such jerk to a sales that probably get less than $2 in commission for helping u skip the line.

douchebags

#1, the lineup was a complete lie, the store was completely dead, i know because i saw the line when i walked in and because i walked by and there was no line

#2, he never helped me at all

#3, he came up to me and asked to ring me up without trying to help me or offer me any service

#4, i was holding in my hand at least 250$ worth of stuff

threezero 12-11-2011 09:11 PM

so you let the cashier key in her rep code and she gets the miniscule amount of commission?

the cashier probably stand around there all day picking her nails until a customer comes up.

oh and commission isn't calculated base on the value of your item. some really expensive tv for example has less commission than certain cable

or did i misunderstand #4 you though u are going to get rob by that sales?

People shouldn't get extra money if they didn't earn it. That's like going to work and giving yourself an extra half hour pay just because you showed up.

Commission based sales reps do have it bad, but they need to EARN it, not just because they ring you up. Multiple times I had someone ask me to pay in their section, I just find it easier to go to the cashier so I can at least browse the store some more.

#4, he only approached me cause i had a lot of stuff in my hand

i cant justify giving somebody my sales who doesn't try to even help me, who likely only approached me because i had stuff in my hands, if a rep helps me, i'd be glad to ring it in with them because they earned it, but if not, why should i? i know what customer service is, and its absolutely garbage at some FS. no offense to those good reps though, i know a few.

one more thing, i remember during boxing day sales at FS, when customers had like laptops and gps' in their hands, the reps would just get a sticker and stick on their reference # so that would get punched in when they pay.. needless to say people ripped it off because somebody had helped them already

absolutely unprofessional and desperate....

Not really racist! 12-11-2011 09:36 PM

also, to add to that, he lied to me about the line-up, dishonesty...

NLY 12-11-2011 09:46 PM

sometimes the sales guy are told to approach customers with a lot of products in their hands in case of theft, especially if you got a couple hundred dollars in your hands.
