Futureshop scam? Posted in here for more traffic

So if mods dont mind, Im just trying to get more replies cause Im heading there in 2 hours after work. Can we move it to comp forum after 4pm?

Friend bought NEW acer laptop

take it home

"no bootable drive found -- please insert boot disk" on first power upinstead of the usual windows setup on a new comp.

i tried setting up the boot order, tried everything in bios, reset defaults etc. The quickstart guide (LOL) says put battery in, plug in turn on, follow instructions.

He takes it back and they say "thats why you should buy the $100 startup fee, cause every laptop is like this" <- WTF?!

I know for sure thats bullshit.

Ive never seen or heard of this happen yet.
Me being the software dev, am I just retarded right now?

Or does anyone here work for futureshop and know how to get around this bs? Im planning on going up there and having them fire up another new one on the spot to see how that acts.

Geoc 12-08-2011 01:26 PM

In futureshop, you can do a return within 30 days no questions asked (even if it works fine). So just return it, and then buy another.

Nlkko 12-08-2011 01:28 PM

You can return it without restocking fee no?

$100 start up fee :fuckthatshit:

taylor192 12-08-2011 01:34 PM

Talk to a different FS employee, some are just tools.

+1 you can return it no questions asked, it doesn't work, return it simple as that, if they give u a hard time talk with the manager
and that 100$ startup fee is bullshit, no laptop from futureshop is like that, he's just trying to push it on you for your replacement...

Can return it without any fees being taken off
This is why I like Costco they return anything no questions asked :)
they may not have the most up to date shit but their customer service is great when it comes to problems, IMO of course

smoothie. 12-08-2011 01:39 PM

I would prefer an exchange over a return as it was a one day sale.

fuckin futureshop, had me thinking I was retarded for a day.

Oh well

smoothie. 12-08-2011 01:40 PM

I also know that the $99 is non refundable, those fucks mustve tried this to more than just my friend.

krazynuck 12-08-2011 01:45 PM

Its actually 14 day return ploicy on laptop and computers

Manic! 12-08-2011 01:46 PM

no bootable drive found -- please insert boot disk means the hard drive is messed up. I'm almost 100% sure. I would pay the $100 just to see what the tech would do and then yell at them for breaking my laptop.

Return the laptop and get a new one or ask for an exchange.

Dragon-88 12-08-2011 01:47 PM

All notebooks come preloaded with Operating system. At most you just have to do the initialization of the O.S. I bet your buddy has a bad hard drive. Just get them to replace the unit for you.

xilley 12-08-2011 01:48 PM

i honestly dont understand why these fucking workers are so fucking cocky and ignorant. (not all but quite abit)
i mean seriously, do you get commission for one less refunds/exchange? No.
instead they gotta make it super hard on customers ass with some stupid bs

GLOW 12-08-2011 01:57 PM

they say "thats why you should buy the $100 startup fee, cause every laptop is like this" [/QUOTE]

HondaGuy 12-08-2011 01:58 PM

I know that BestBuy has a 14 days refund policy, and FS should be the same.

I purchased a toshiba 11" laptop and found it incredibly slow, so I just returned it back. The only question they asked me at customer service was "whats wrong with it??" ... I replied, "too slow loading"...very simple, they said ok, typed it in the comment screen and got refund back.

Oftentimes, I find FS has bad service as well...bought a camera awhile back and nobody was helping, just talking near the counter.

Yc 12-08-2011 02:44 PM

at metro, there is an old guy standing at cashier, getting commissions without even helping a single customer, awesome

FRStan 12-08-2011 02:46 PM

What do they really do for the $100 startup? Power on, make account, burn back up disk in DVD-R's, ???

Probably, I mean honestly what is there to do. Hit the power button, set username/pass, they can't even set up your wifi for you. The system recovery discs are almost useless as well, just keep a copy of your stuff and reformat.

Having now worked at FS for 6 months and indirectly dealing with a few returns, you'd be surprised at some of the shit people pull.

just off the top of my head i've been given these excuses

1. i bought a case for my ipod, that's protection. I went to bed and when i woke up and there's a crack on the glass!!! i want an exchange.

2. i turned on the tv and the glass just cracked,

3. my tweeter fell off, and no i didn't use the grille for it. Exchange it.

4. The wire just came out of the headphone, i don't know how it happened!

seriously, not everyone at customer service is an asshole, but sometimes stupid shit happens.

b92 12-08-2011 03:31 PM

lol..futureshop employees are douches. I was at richmond location purchasing new headphones. I asked one employee from t.v. department to show me where all the headphones are and I say thanks, just gonna browse around.

A while later I see him watching me as I grabbed a set of headphones but then walked to the cellphone section instead since there was also headphones. The man there talked to me about the headphones in that department also and I say thanks. After a while I walk to the cashier at the front to pay, and what do you know, I see the guy from t.v. department walking up fast because he saw the guy from the cellphone section, walking up to the cashier to tell her they "helped" me LOL. Fags

you do know, products often do have odd things break or heat up? the new iphone 4s has symptoms of heating up and burning so far i've heard in the news. I've had numerous products break on me or fall apart due to bad build quality. My laptop, just purchased recently, the bezel and frame is somehow built curved. I exchanged that.

that just shows faults within their pay structure and management system

JesseBlue 12-08-2011 03:42 PM

seriously get your money back...electronics will depreciate so value really isnt there even if you think you got it on sale...

everyday is a sale...more like 'for sale'

br2 12-08-2011 04:08 PM

larry chu works at future shop... you should ask him for help :troll:

TheKingdom2000 12-08-2011 04:21 PM

futureshop, employs the most useless people on earth... well some are decent.
and yes, laptops/computers are 14days

just do a straight exchange or talk to a manager and tell that fs employee to FUCK OFF

Mr.HappySilp 12-08-2011 04:26 PM
