Hyundai getting serious about V8 Genesis Coupe Hyundai “Serious” About Genesis Coupe V8 By: Colum Wood Proving that the V8-powered Genesis Coupe is in fact possible, Hyundai unveiled the RMR500 concept at the SEMA Show recently, built with its motorsports partner Rhys Millen Racing. Powered by the brand’s new 5.0-liter Tau V8, as found in the Genesis Sedan R-Spec and with a few modifications, it makes an incredible 450-hp. During a Q&A session today at the automaker’s technical center in Ann Arbor, MI, when asked if the company was serious about bringing such a car to market, Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik replied: “How could you not be serious about that? How could you not be serious about a 450-hp Tau-V8 powered Genesis Coupe?” Stopping just short of confirming the V8 Genesis Coupe, Krafcik did exclaim, “I want that for my next company car.” Hyundai recently revealed photos of its facelifted 2013 Genesis Coupe, which will debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. While specific details aren’t yet available, the 2.0T base engine is expected to increase from 210-hp to 274-hp, while the 3.8-liter V6 is expected to jump from 306 to 333-hp thanks to direct-injection technology. If Krafcik’s comments are any indication, those waiting for a V8-powered Genesis Coupe, might not be waiting in vain. http://www.autoguide.com/gallery/gal...3/IMG_0208.JPG http://www.autoguide.com/gallery/d/4...3/IMG_0198.JPG http://www.autoguide.com/gallery/d/4...3/IMG_0205.JPG |
^wtf that rear plate location :fulloffuck: |
^ I actually like the plate up there. |
2.0T base engine from 210hp to 274hp? NICEEEEEE |
Meanwhile, at Honda. |
Bump in hp for the 2.0 so it doesn't get walked on by the Scion/Subaru F/R Posted via RS Mobile |
V8 would be fucking amazing. I like the car enough as it is but add a 450hp motor? :fuckyea: I guess the big deciding factor would be the price point however. They would have to price it in a range that would make it so that modding a Turbo Version would not be easier to attain that kind of power. Berz out. |
I had my mind set on getting the new Subaru BRZ,but with the new genesis that might come out with a 450 V8,I'm going to have to rethink that idea. I can imagine what the V8 engine must sound like with a aftermarket free flow exhaust. |
From Toyota 86>BRZ>genesis v8. So many choices. :fulloffuck: Posted via RS Mobile |
epic |
Do want. ...but maybe see what the price tag will be first. And I like the location of the plate. |
Nice to see Hyundai actually putting some balls in their "sports cars" |

Those welds look like shit. |
just to clarify, it won't exactly be 450hp if they do toss a v8 engine in it. won't be far off though, only engine mods in the rm500 are a turboback and an intake (or just the filter) anyway, that thing is sick as hell. probably gonna pickup that front lip soon for my car. and those foglight shrouds are functional too, you can buy them as is or you can buy them with a piece that leads the duct to the brakes. hyundai dun guud |
i dont see many "its still a hyundai" joke anymore :lawl: Koreans are rising automakers like the Japanese, and before you know it, they will be at the top. I believe my next car will be a v8 genesis if I can afford it :fullofwin: |
|
Japan won the quality war...everyone jumped on board and now the differences in quality are vastly smaller than they were. Now Hyundai has decided to go after excitement in their line up, something that the quality gurus no longer know how to build. |
GENCOUPES :yuno: Y U MAKE ME LIKE HYUNDAI :megusta: |
IF they sell the pre-facelifted model with this motor, im gonna be all over it the moment it hits showrooms. Facelift = OMGWTFBBQ |
