The Last of Us

upcoming ps3 exclusive survival horror
looks like a blend of dead island + I am legend

haz potential...only because it's made by naughty dog

bloodmack 12-10-2011 07:40 PM

... fuck now zombie survival games are going to get out played.. dead island was fun but the gameplay got boring halfway thru the game for me.

Why do they go out of their way to say "captured directly from a ps3".. :lol /soundsdesperate

kchan 12-10-2011 07:44 PM

the female character in the trailer reminds me of Ellen Page from Inception

The female character reminds me of Zoey from L4D. The dude they killed was dressed like a hunter.

Canadian Rider 12-10-2011 08:11 PM

asian_XL 12-10-2011 08:31 PM

because many trailers for console games are CGI'd and deceiving
Exhibit A...dead island
the developers behind this game is very technical-oriented...if you saw this you'd probably think it's pre-rendered on a monster PC as the PS3 has very limited memory and an aged GPU

striderblade 12-10-2011 10:54 PM

knowing that is from naughtydog is gonna be a good game. For those who havent played the uncharted series. These guys know how to utilize the full potential of ps3

in all console in game engines, id say naughty dog has done an amazing job with Uncharted 2 and 3..

most game engines were made utilizing and based on a pc hardware that is transferred to console, case point is Unreal Engine 3 and the CryEngine 3.. both look great, but they look their best on pc

i was never a playstation guy, i love my 360 for online games but honestly, the past 2 to 3 years, Sony has been pumping out new IPs from their first party developers and they have been releasing quality game products

yeap coop would be excellent
hard to say if this will be open-world where you can explore for weapons/supplies or if it's going to be very linear with huge action set pieces...i have a feeling it's the latter just so naughty dog can flex their guns in the technical department again

Renxo 12-11-2011 01:23 AM

urban undead uncharted ... going to b a great game hopefully not a rehash of anything

This! And I'm pretty sure it's going to be at least a 2-player co-op. If ND can blow us all away with the UC trilogy, then I expect nothing less from them with The Last of Us

bloodmack 12-11-2011 06:33 PM

whenever i think of naught dog i always think crash bandicoot, i still haven't played the uncharted series. wish i did before i sold my ps3 :(

And the Crash Bandicoot series. These guys make epic games, and have been doing so for a long, long time.

Firmware 12-12-2011 05:40 PM

Probably going to play it, i've played most of them , L4D1/2 , Black ops is still my favorite but dead island eh..

came across this article
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/...dog/51851164/1

what caught my attention

Quote:

Back in 2008, Druckmann had been mulling an idea for a graphic novel about a father and daughter in a zombie tale. He and game director Bruce Straley were watching the BBC/Discovery series Planet Earth and saw a segment on the cordyceps fungus. At the time, both were working on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves; they had also worked on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

In close-ups, the documentary showed how the parasitic fungus infected ants and, having taken over their brains, resulted in protruding growths from their heads. A thousand-plus fungus variations exist, each genetically targeting an individual species. "We instantly thought 'humans,' " Straley says.

The two discussed how "it would be a cool realistic backsetting to a zombie movie where this thing jumped species," Druckmann recalls, "not knowing there was going to be another (game) project."

Meanwhile, Naughty Dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra had been considering splitting the one-project-at-a-time studio into two teams. "We felt if we didn't expand the roles for people, we could potentially lose them, because they really wanted to be challenged," Wells says. "We didn't want to lose that talent."

So after Uncharted 2 shipped, some studio members moved to the Last of Us project, while others worked on Uncharted 3.

Like the Uncharted games, The Last of Us has a third-person perspective, in which you see the character on-screen, but it has a more realistic, cinematic look. "We're trying to move the medium of video games into an area elevated in the same manner of respect of film," Balestra says. "We want to redefine what our medium is even called. 'Video game' is not an accurate name anymore. It is not necessarily a game with rules and a winner and a loser. It's an experience."
this was the clip they were talking about...they ended up using it as a teaser vid

also..that blurb could very well be why uncharted 3 didn't hvae the same 'oomph' as Uncharted 2 since a part of Naughty Dog started working on this two years ago.

also, confirmed as third person perspective...that's a relief.

hopefully this game wont be as glitchy as dead island and twice as awesome too :D

VGA 2012: Part 3 - The Last of Us | Full Episodes | GameTrailers
releasing May 7, 2013

honestly I'm getting tired of post-apocalypse themes...the story/dialogue seems too similar the the walking dead show but being a ps3 exclusive by naughty dog i'll no doubt be getting it.
