Noise isolating earbuds

I'm looking for a set of noise-isolating earbuds. Ideally something that will not at all easily fall out of my ears when i'm working out.

I do not want to spend more than $50 if possible.

When I bought them (last xmas) they were rated one of the best earbuds of 2010 in terms of bang for your buck relative to noise cancelling and sound reproduction. They are very versatile ( I listen to rock, metal, rap, hiphop). Handles everything perfectly. Sound cancellation is second to nothing else I've used, with volume on low, completely blocks out most conversation noises (i.e. the dull roar in the hallways of SFU). Read up on it, seems like they came out with a new mc3 version, from what I can tell, it just adds cellphone controls.

Work out? Forget 99.9% of what is available. The sweat will trickle down the wires and short it at the remote/y split (personally killed 5+ buds that way). There are a few splash proof buds on the market like the senn Adidas range, I bought the neckband and ear clip versions and honestly it's complete garbage in terms of sq.

For passive noise isolation, nothing beats the large tri cone ear tips, not even comply foams (bought from their website + tested on a flight).

The best I have tried/own so far are the klipsch s5i. The bass is lacking and there is too much mids for trance/hip hop/techno (which is what I assume most people listen to during work outs to keep them pumped up) but it is the best sounding buds that are waterproof,semi isolating and secure (when you coil it over your ear).

Msrp is 130ish but FS regularly does a 1+1 sale so you could easily pick a pair up for 70-80.

Very, at least 4x in the last 6 mths. If not bogo they slash it down to around 80.

I don't sweat a lot and I've never killed a set of earbuds before for that reason.

The Etymotic sells for around $80 in Canada. The Klipsch is way too expensive.

Personally, I recommend the MEElectronics M6. Amazing for the price and super comfy. If I hadn't wrecked mine during some field work, they would still be my daily portable set.

I use Sennheiser cx300 ii when i work out (lifting, jump roping, jogging, whatever). IMO, the best purchase i made in regards to ear buds. Sound quality and product quality are awesome. You can get them online for less than 50 bucks on eBay. But make sure to stay away from fakes. At Futureshop, they sell them for $99 but sometimes go on sale.

I bought them a while ago on amazon.com for $20 (shipped to Blaine). They are still $20 on Amazon.

I just looked them up for you and currently the MEElectronics website has them the cheapest at $36 (shipping included) if you don't have an American mailbox. I would buy them again even at that price. They also come with a wide range of ear tips so you can find your optimal fit.

How good are they for noise isolation? The current earbuds I have now, I have to crank the volume near the max to block out all the background noise in the gym. I don't like doing that.

Depends on the tips you wear and the fit you get with each of them.

I was using Sony Hybrid tips (not-included), which I thought were comparable in isolation but slightly more comfy than the stock single-flanges. My other choice in tips was the small tri-flange set.

I haven't worn the M6 in the city since late May so I don't remember enough to specifically comment on the isolation in day-to-day city life, but I remember that they were able to attenuate helicopter noise well enough that had I not been required to wear an aviation headset in the chopper for communication, I could have done with only the M6s (but the aviation headsets were obviously better at noise attenuation).

TL;DR - reduced IRL helicopter noise to less than pain-inducing levels

what earbuds do you have right now? the klipsch s4i and MEE M9's isolate fine for me on the bus.

+1 for MEE, the M9's I have are kinda dark for my taste tho. can't complain with that price i guess. the gf likes the S4i > M9 > vmodavibes. imo, none are worth their price except for the MEE stuff, especially the klipsch even at 1/2 price.

tempted to try the moster turbine coppers for $99 tho ...

None. I wear my set of Ultrasone DJ1 headphones (with DT250 velour ear pads) at school and on the commute, Beyerdynamic DT990 at home.

If I were to buy a new set of IEMs, I would go custom ($$), or get the M6 again just cuz they are so cheap and the sound is more than acceptable.

JVC Marshmallows $30 at FS or London Drugs. Sound great and have used them at the gym a lot and they stay in. I don't think your going to find anything better under $50 locally.

Bought some klipsch from FS and did not like them to bright for my tastes. I would saty away from Scull Candies and Bob Marley's because they are fashion headphones and not performance headphones.

For sport/gym, I'd still suggest some of the sport headphones from Sony. They are design to withstand the sweat, and fits on top of your head fairly well despite your possible movements.

And for true noise-cancelling, get active NC solutions. Those are the good stuff.

don't go with monster turbines/beats. Waste of money on some aesthetic earphones

i read on head-fi they were quite decent, totally diff from their cables and such. as you can see from ones i have, i could care less about aesthetics. i mean if the monster beats or watever ppl like to walk around in public with were ... $29-59 i'd try them out. for that price they're worth it, definitely not $249 tho lol.

i also have triple-fi's and mainly use the D2000 on an E10 at home. I was mainly deciding between the DT990 and the D2000 before. I was worried about the E10, since it was so cheap, but it produced a very noticeable difference than my onboard sound.

If you don't mind spending up to $99 the monster turbines pro coppers are a great set if IEMs. Not a waste of money as previously stated.
