Good-Bye SAAB -- SAAB files for bankruptcy

..liked some of their car designs but never enough to actually buy it.

GM ruined the marque. The only decent "Saab" in the last decade was the 9-2x, and that was because it was a WRX with pretty sheetmetal.

i almost forgot the existence of SAAB.. they are pretty nice cars, don't mind owning one!

ae101 12-19-2011 07:05 PM

i got just a hunch of a feeling that some chinese auto makers is gonna buy just like rover

I like SAAB, but never enough to consider buying one. It's just a shame that they're likely gone because having a unique, niche company like them is always nice to have. Even though most people would never buy one, it was always that quirky option you could go with if you ever grew bored of the major brands.

^ I agree.

I remember in the 90's my friend's Dad bought a 900 turbo instead of BMW 3 series. I asked him why and he told me that he wanted to be different.

FWD, turbo 4 cylinder, hatchback, distinctive shape in the 90s. I would never buy one, but it was different.

not surprised at all.

ilvtofu 12-19-2011 10:57 PM

Neat looking cars but could never compete at the prices they were selling them at here

kwy 12-19-2011 11:11 PM

Again?

They were awesome cars, pre GM era ones were built and engineered to last many nuclear bombs.

On a serious note, they were extremely comfortable to drive and were tanks through the snow. Almost everything was thought out when they built these cars, such as interior switch design and layout.

They even showed you how to change the belts and perform oil changes in their owner manuals :P

Bahhbeehhaaaa 12-20-2011 12:01 AM

how much do they cost on average?

Leopold Stotch 12-20-2011 01:03 AM

a 9-2 is around 40 something from what i remembered.

i really liked the old 9000's but i used to always drive by this saab repair shop on clark and it reminded me why there weren't a lot on the road.

I believe Pang Da was supposed to buy some of Saab, but GM blocked the deal.

There was a Chinese buyer lined up, but GM is still a stake holder and they didn't allow the deal to go through because they didn't want the competition in the Chinese market.

CharlieH 12-20-2011 01:24 PM

i always liked saabs but they were priced way too close to bmw/benz/audi. aside from it being rare there was really no real incentive on buying one.

unit 12-20-2011 01:51 PM

i used to think saab was alright until DANNY
