Moving servers again

So we have moved to a new database server, and now it's time to move our web server as well.

Attachments will be disabled on the old server. So if you don't see it, it means the switch hasn't been made for your ISP yet. Once you see it again, you're on the new server.

Other than that, the switch should be relatively unnoticeable (I hope )

You can ping REVscene.net - Western Canada & Greater Northwest #1 Automotive, Lifestyles & Classifieds Forums! - if the IP starts with a 50, you're on the new server. If it's a 174, then you're still on the old one.

If you want to use the server sooner, try

ipconfig /flushdns

Also it would be good to know if the server seems faster or slower than before. We're using less CPU than before, but have a lot more RAM.

This have anything to do with me being unable to change my Avatar?
I've tried a bunch of different combinations.
all under 175/300 and under 24. whatever kb.

And since I'm on this topic.
Any chance of making the file size limit bigger? I don't think an extra 5kb would hurt.

Thanks

OK so we are moving back to the old server, upgraded some hardware. Again, it will take a day or so for everyone to update.

PLEASE MAKE SURE you have no entries in your hosts file! Otherwise, you won't be pointing to the latest server!

Why is/was there an entry in my hosts file for RS? I didn't have anything in there besides an entry for the old RS server, and I know I didn't manually enter it in myself.

I noticed I couldn't access RS on my home laptop a few days ago and discovered it in my hosts file.

Did RS somehow automatically modify my hosts file?

there was a time where we had to/could redirect rs to the new IP or something to access the site and it involved editing the host file (maybe you forgot about it, it was like a year ago almost)

Side note Im getting a msg from Cloudflare? about the site being offline when i try to access RS now and i gotta click the link to try a "live" version of the site to be able to access RS but its doing it for every page/link i click ???

If there is anything in your host file, it was done yourself

It's just a way to reach a new site, when ISP's DNS servers are taking too long to 'notice' the switch. A 'good' ISP should be almost instant (PCCW is for me). Crappy ones take hours, and really shitty ones take over a day. I remember Shaw used to be like that, but it was a long time ago.
