Decent 2.1/5.1 speaker set
 

I'm moving to another townhouse soon, and due to the new room being smaller than the one I have now I am most likely going to be forced to move my 5.1 setup downstairs to the living room and do not want to piss off my neighbors

I'm basically using 4 tower speakers, 1 centre, a subwoofer and a receiver
(model of receiver is Onkyo TX-DS676: http://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/...6_manual_e.pdf)

now to the main topic, I was wondering if there are any recommendation for a good 2.1 / 5.1 speaker setup? I have an Asus Zonar soundcard, so I won't be using onboard soundcard

I was looking at the Corsair SP2500 and Logitech Z5500, but I've heard that the Logitech Z5500 has no mids at all which im a bit disappointed at

Main purpose for this setup will be gaming + music, i won't be pumping it very loud because I do not want to disturb my neighbors, during the night time I will most likely be referring to my Sennheiser HD555

So please recommend me something,

wow they jacked up the price....it used to be <$70..bought mine for $55

other well reviewed 2.0/2.1 speakers include the kplisch pro media...but they are probably like 7 years old now and the wiring are known to degrade over time.

M-Audio AV40 also seems to be a great choice for your budget.

Thanks for the input, I don't mind Edifier since I used their in-ear headphones from long ago that beats my friends Shures and Monster Turbine away so I am pretty confident in their products.

any input on Bose Companion 3 / 5? My budget is prefer to be around $200, but of course cheaper is better

Haven't really looked at Bose ever since their products quality lowered as most arent made in USA anymore (says my dad)

i picked up the logitech z623 for $99 at futureshop boxing day sale...

Pros
THX certified 200w system
super low price (still on sale)
sounds damn good for the money
more bass than you need

Cons
wish the wires were a little bit longer....
need some tweaking on the equalizer to bring up the mids and highs,
they sound a bit dull to me out of the box.....but after some adjustments they're awesome

damn...i would've jumped on one!
yeah i know the z-2300 was criticized for not having great mids/highs...good to know this was fixed.

I run the edefier 2.1 mentioned above. Highly recommend them. Very good speakers for the price.

i have the z623, im loving the bass, not many cons to them.

I wouldnt go with the Behringer's they are cheap built studio monitors and don't have much of a low end frequency so would sound pretty bad gaming, but for cheap speakers with a low end that do well with gaming u could go with this

I don't know how a 3 inch speaker with 10 watts is going to have more bass that an 8 ich speaker with 165 watts.

Thats not the case, for an example adam a5's sound much better than my yamaha hs80s with a 3 inch smaller drive and less watt usage. It's how the drivers are built and how the frequency ranges work together. M-Audio's have a slight boxy bass sound that gives a heavy feeling of bass output. Remember he's not using it to produce or do any mixes its for gaming and home use, and in the producing community Behringer's have the worst rep lol

Any comment on the Bose companion 3?
My friend is willing to get me one for half off retail but I want some review from people

The Bose look alright, are ok for movies, but definitely not good for music. Run a frequency sweep and you'll notice a few large drop offs. The Corsairs have very good reviews, and personally i have the Klipsch Promedias paired with a Titanium HD. Great for music for the price, good for movies, and more power than I'd ever need. A friend has the Companions and I'd take any of the above listed over it for various reasons.

10 watts is 10 watts. I own a pair of older M audio speakers with 3 inch drivers and the bass sounds like crap. It's of a bloated mid bass sound. The Behringers sound way better have and have way more out put. Add a cheap HT sub and you have a killer system.

which edifier were these?

to be honest i do not know
i had 2 pair, 1 of them were a "beta" pair that I got from an uncle that used to work there

other pair I bought as a backup

finally finished moving had time to drop by ncix to listen to the s330, sp2200, sp2500

the s330 wasn't quite what i expected as i read that its suppose to be on par with the sp2500

the sp2200 is good for its value

the sp2500 was very good in terms of quality, but.. lacking mids :(

any other recommendation?

S330D + Asus Essence STX

id have to put in my vote for the Logitech Z623 as well.
like mentioned above, they do sound a bit suppressed out of the box, but with some tweaking they sound great

yea i was hoping for that setup but i dont know, when i went there today wasn't that impressed with the s330, i already have the asus essence stx
