Sound System (Sound Bar)

Deciding on either a LG or Samsung need some opinions.

Samsung HW-D450 40in Surround Sound Speaker Bar w/ Wireless Subwoofer - $199
Samsung HW-D450 40in Surround Sound Speaker Bar w/ Wireless Subwoofer at Memory Express

LG HLS36W Sound Bar w/ Wireless Subwoofer - $199
LG HLS36W Sound Bar w/ Wireless Subwoofer at Memory Express

Samsung
- Pro: Nice design, solid reviews, touch clear top for the bottons
- Con: No blue tooth attachment

LG
- Pro: Nice design, Blue tooth (connect iphone to speakers)
- Con: not a lot of reviews to compare, bottons are press (not touch)

Both original price $400 and on sale for $199

Edit: Sound Quality: Both are pretty good (friend said he liked the samsung a bit better), the only difference is the subwoofer in the LG packs a bigger punch (hear the bass better) but thats only if I turn up the volume.. Aka: I think both sound quality is good in general but the bass for the LG is better if I put up the volume.

I purchased the Samsung soundbar at FS during Boxing Day. The "virtual surround" feature is bull and does not do much. If you are playing MW3, there is absolutely no way you can tell when someone is coming up behind you.

So if you are just getting a soundbar because you don't care about surround sound, then yes the Samsung is great. It sounds great. Much better than a TV. If you can afford an actual 5.1 setup, you should do that instead.

If you guys were to go back, would you do it over again (purchase a sound bar)?

My friends and I were debating if it is worth getting. As they plan to move into condos and apartments, space is an issue. We thought that a sound bar would be a good alternative, should we reconsider?

Any general discussion would be appreciated.

The Boston Acustic TVee Model 30 looks nice, but is a whopping $650.

If you have room for a receiver this looks like a better option for a sound bar.

BIC Acoustic

No fancy DPS but just 3 speakers in a bar shape. Has side speakers too but you can not connect them and use some rear speakers. Making the the bar the same as have a left, center, and right speaker. Add a sub to complete the setup.

Yes. Space is an issue. I also don't want the rear speakers wire to show. Hiding it behind the walls or up the ceiling is way too much work. Wireless speakers may be nice but pricey. Soundbar gives a decent upgrade to the TV built in speakers.

yes. but i wouldn't spend more then 300. if your going to spend over that then get a 5.1 and hide all the wires in the walls. a sound bar will not compare to a true 5.1

I was also looking at a soundbar but prefer rear speakers.. does anyone here know of any good wireless surround (i know it's not really wireless as i was told)

I originally wanted to get the polk towers, speakers, sub, etc. but now i'm thinking it might be too much and take up a lot of room... (of course, i'd still consider this if i can't find an awesome wireless.)
