TOUGH MUDDER WHISTLER 2012

VANCOUVER AT WHISTLER OLYMPIC PARK – SAT JUNE 23 & SUN 24, 2012

Tough mudder as described by them,

"Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. As the leading company in the booming obstacle course industry, Tough Mudder has already challenged half a million inspiring participants worldwide and raised more than $2 million dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project. But Tough Mudder is more than an event, it’s a way of thinking. By running a Tough Mudder challenge, you’ll unlock a true sense of accomplishment, have a great time, and discover a camaraderie with your fellow participants that’s experienced all too rarely these days."

Any of you guys doing this? Would love to train for something like this, but I don't know anyone else who would even be interested :alone:

Looks like a good place to wear my Vibram Five Fingers.

xPhuong 12-28-2011 10:36 PM

Vibram Five Fingers in wilderness? Does it protect against branches and sharp objects? lool woulnd't suggest those out there.

Actually they're not bad for hiking even over sharp objects, you would be surprised. A lot of people do wear them for hiking, you can search the inter webs. The soles are very tough, you'd have to stab it pretty hard with a knife to puncture it.

cressydrift 12-29-2011 07:54 PM

I think i am going to wear boots. The run will suck in them but climbing, jumping and landing, going through mud will give me the extra support I need. I am not sure though, I am going to look into this some more.

Surprised more people aren't interested.

The Spartan Race is another comparable event....if you want to do something a lot more smaller scale (5km). Thats held in North Van

Excelsis 12-29-2011 09:57 PM

ooo i might try this out looks fun

and i don't think the vibram shoes would do so good in the swamp stomp "slosh your way through waist-deep sludge without losing your shoes in the process"

and  at the "Kinky Tunnels" challenge

i'll try to get some friends to sign up too

NLY 12-29-2011 10:06 PM

:fuckyea: to the max if you finish

Friends and I are heavily considering doing it as part of the group early bird :accepted:

110 bucks ... :heckno:

Another Warrior Dash - bleh, I guess it's one of those interesting things to try for the first time for the experience.

I'll stick to the grouse grind.

ProShift 02-29-2012 09:06 PM

This is right around the corner and I just signed up. I have done the warrior dash and it is a piece of cake. From what I have seen in the videos I think this will be a real challenge.

Grouse grind???? Please... this will be like that carrying a log and climbing over 12ft walls!

Is there anyone else on RS doing this?

Jared

Richmond69er 03-03-2012 06:02 PM

myself and a dozen friends are signed up to do this in memory of a friend in june!

should be good times for sure.

dat_steve 03-06-2012 05:44 PM

thinking of signing up with a few people from work. Ride to Conquer cancer is a week right before though...might just HTFU and do it. June would be an epic month!

Richmond69er 03-10-2012 07:06 AM

^^its a great cause but so poorly organized. did it last year and our group will never do it again. up til last year we did the 24hr relay at swanguard. were gonna be doing that again this year. SO MUCH FUN!

Nocardia 05-22-2012 08:20 PM

I signed up, not much training tho :(
Ran the BMO half to get an idea of how far 10 miles is....its fucking FAR. Simply moving 10 miles is tough enough let alone the obstacles. I get back from Europe the previous sunday so I will try to get some running and lifting in before that.

Did anyone buy gloves for this? It seems like everyone wears them but I can't figure out what type to buy (UA Tough mudder ones don't seem to be in Canada).

Redlines_Daily 05-23-2012 07:30 AM

^Ive read mixed reviews on gloves. Some people say they are a must and others say they get so muddy that they are useless!

Yeah I have heard that too, but I did hear these were good and make sense bc they are just basically rubber:
