that brings up a good question. how the fuck do cable ferries work? does the cable have enough slack in it that it droops deep enough in the water for boats to cross?

been on that ferry probably 30 times in the last 8 years on the bike. lumby-needles/fauquier is a popular ride. the guy that used to run the gas station and restaurant in fauquier was on jay leno and was featured in the top 10 things you need to do on a motorcycle in canada.

Isn't the Boston Bar ferry a cable ferry?

It's a reaction ferry... as I said, most of the "cable" ferries on rivers are reaction ferries. It doesn't require any kind of engine that way, as it just uses river current to drive it.

200,000 for a used ferry not bad...

can I build a mansion on it? do i still have to pay property tax??

Spoiler!

Soundy 01-04-2012 03:08 PM

No property tax, but you'd have to pay moorage and hookup fees somewhere. But hey, you could populate it with a half-dozen mobile homes and make yourself quite the trailer-park mansion!

I grew up on a river in nova scotia right across from where a cable ferry docked. Yes, the cable has enough slack to sink down, and its frigging huge.

Every couple of years, the cable would snap and the ferry would end up floating down the river somewhere. Always good for a local laugh.
