Gaming comp?

So i've finally saved up enough for a new gaming desktop computer. however, i don't want to spend it ALL just because i have the money. im wondering if i should just buy a stock computer and add in a high-end video card with a few other tweaks or just straight up buy a brand new computer made for gaming. I will be using this comp for school work as well.

I've got about 1200. I'd prefer to keep the spendings below 550.

if you wanna play new games (skyrim, battlefield etc) you are gonna have to use all that 1200...and more if you don't have a monitor and peripherals.

you can probably get away with sc2 on medium settings at best with a $500 budget

when you have a more reasonable budget put together a build list and check out the build thread on here...most of us are usually helpful.

I don't even know if even that is reasonable. You would really be stretching at that point if you're building from scratch.

Basic systems will run you around $5-700. But if you want gaming your looking at a minimum of $1000...

What's your current spec?

My system was probably like 5 years old and all I did was upgrade with Win7, a SSD, and new GPU and it works great on games.

It really depends on what types of games you're planning on playing... but $500 for a "gaming" comp is pretty much impossible. Even the most budget system that I could think of would be around 600~ after tax....

Also depends heavily on whether you already have a monitor, case, mouse, keyboard, speakers.

What components do you need specifically ?

you are right...i'm thinking of my computers that are now old and worth less than $500 to play games like starcraft II.

unless OP buys 2nd hand parts.

2500k cpu mobo combo + mid-high range card on sale + all the other stuff totals to only around 800-900...and you can play most games max and BF3 at upper-high settings...so i'd invest in saving money
