Fairly priced, REALLY bright, and very reliable. I own a couple and I've never had a issue with them. A majority of my co-workers use them for work and personal use and I haven't heard anything but good things.

A majority of their flashlights use AA or AAA batteries. I use rechargeable Eneloops and they output the max rated lumens with no problem.
+1 for 4sevens. My friends and I have them and they're great.

Costco had some SNAP ON Hybrid flashlights for about $20. Not available at all locations but some of them still had some.

Its got a bright LED trouble light style with a top light. Uses 4 x AA

FYI they're not really SNAP ON, its a special 1 time exclusive product for Costco. Its not part of SNAP AV's regular line up of products.

+1 for Surefires. I have an old G2 LED (120 lumens) with a red filter (great for saving your night vision) that's still working strong and is tough as nails.

What you need is this: SureFire M3LT-S CombatLight Dual-Output w/Strobe 800 Lumens [SFM3LTS] - $575.00CDN : Warriors and Wonders

800 lumens with strobe capability! Crazy.

Trying to aim at something brighter than the sun is ridiculous.

Quad Luxeon modded Maglite with dimmer - 8 AA batts / Roar Of Pelican (1100 lumen)12V modded Maglite - 8 AA batteries

Build your own ROP HERE

the left is more functional because of dimming ability, the right one can cook insects from 1 foot away. i can shine the beam at you from about 5 ft away and you can feel the heat through your pants.

+1 for 4Sevens. I have two Quark's and they're fantastic. This spring I plan on picking up the newest Quark X AA2. What I really love about the 4Sevens lights are the very very reasonable burn times and multiple brightness step-ups. The low mode that I would use around the house or walking on a trail will deplete batteries in 72 hours, which is huge. The moonlight mode on the Quarks is perfect for quickly reading something and not ruining your nightvision. The only downside to the lights is switching on the older ones from off to moonlight (I don't know if the issue was ever fixed) there is a quarter secondish flash at max before it goes to the lower mode, but only on initial startup. Fantastic lights though. Durable, waterproof, higher end LED's. You can't go wrong with a Fenix or Surefire either but from my experience with each of them the 4Sevens come out slightly ahead in the categories I prioritize.

On top of getting a new flashlight, particularly for around the house or in the car, I highly recommend a small headlamp. If you want something that's reliable, durable and doesn't eat through batteries like cheaper lights I highly recommend one of the Petzl Tikka's, Tikkina's or a Black Diamond Spot.

As far as batteries go, pick up some Sanyo Eneloops. Without a doubt the best batteries I've ever used.

Hmm maybe its time to update my flashlights? I keep a Fenix L0P on my keys but it uses the older Luxeon LED. I know a lot of the newer Cree LED will pump out more light with less heat.

can you guys recommend a 1 AAA light? no crazy SOS or strobe. just a simple 3 hi-med-lo settings.

almost all decent flashlights with a low/med/hi are going to have an SOS in them now.

and you're going to want one that has a low/med/hi because while the low may last 15 hours, the high is usually only good for 2 hours run time. and an SOS will be good for like 10 days.
