Finding a specific IC?

Hey guys, I'm trying to find an IC that's only listed on Australian websites (???). It's a LM2617N (ZL3930) and it's a frequency to voltage linear IC. Is there a way to find an equivalent that exists on this side of the ocean without digging through piles of data sheets? I'm new to having to cross reference stuff like this.

Building a DIY launch control?

Just googled that part number and found this listing with a link to a Chinese supplier: LM2617N - Search & Buy LM2617N from Specialized Suppliers, Distributors & Manufacturers

NTE has a cross-reference that may help here: http://nte01.nteinc.com/nte/NTExRefSemiProd.nsf

That part references as NTE995... ton of US distributors listed here: Search Results | NTE-Electronic Components Supplier

Locally, you could try Active Components, Pacific Semiconductor, or maybe Main Electronics.

Oops, I used 2917 in the search rather than 2617... however, the LM2917 is also an F/V converter chip, probably a suitable replacement if you check the data sheets.

Shh don't tell anyone.

Have you ever ordered anything from that Chinese site? I'm assuming they're the manufacturer of the Aussie chip. I find it kinda odd that it's only sold down under. Thanks for the info I'll compare the sheets and see how close they are.

Just curious, have you already built most of this, or are you waiting to see if you can get the IC before starting?

I could show you how to do the same thing with a locally sourced (CDN supplier) microcontroller that even my 8 year old daughter can program (seriously, I'm teaching her how using BASIC) and a few dollars in spare parts.

I've got everything I need but the IC and a transistor, but the parts thus far were only $12 locally. PM me some info on this microcontroller?

Last time I needed some "esoteric" chips (years ago), I found them at Main Electronics. Don't even remember what they were or what they were for

Digikey.com

Free shipping on orders over $200, otherwise flat rate of $8. Stuff used to show up at my door the next morning.

If you're in Engineering you're going to get to know them real well . Hell even at RIM the prototyping guys order all their parts through there.

^ I get a parcel from Digikey several times a month. Always overnight delivery and you can't beat the $8 shipping.

They've obviously got some deal with UPS since stuff never gets held up in customs, nor do you ever need to fill out forms or paperwork stating what the parts are for.

believe my digikey was the first place I checked, there is literally no trace of this chip outside of Australia and that one Chinese supplier

Update: I finally got around to checking the datasheet, and apparently the "LM2907 is the same, aside from a built-in zener on the 2917. Digikey has the 2907, and now when I 2917, I get hits as well? wtf? I must have been doing something wrong before. Oh well.

Thanks again for all your help guys!
