What do you mean by "an act" ? Like he's doing Peter Chao fake accent before he sings? :suspicious:

There's a lot of info on this topic on google, but a logical explanation is
that singing, they are singing it phonetically, and not necessarily singing
the way they would pronounce the words in speech.

This guy is pretty good, but he'll never win unless he miraculously refine his
voice within the next few weeks.

and dammit, another asian on american TV that acts like a goof for comic relief...
and this guys seriously HAD to act like that to solidify the stereotype. Not even hollywood's fault this time.
sigh...

Culture_Vulture 01-25-2012 12:02 AM

he's got zing, but I'd have to see more before I could judge his singing talents

That's exactly what I mean. Fat ugly asians who can sing get a lot more attention than normal looking asians who can sing. Look at that fat ugly taiwanese kid who became famous for just being fat and ugly and being able to sing "I will always love you"

I personally don't think it's fake, judging by the fact he doesn't even have a proper English name,
he's obviously an immigrant here (unlike Peter Chao).

I don't know why you would automatically assume that without any source.
Considering many people with accents lose it once they start singing.
But I guess it doesn't really matter.

He's auditioning to be part of show biz, and by those standards he's a lot further ahead than the generic show biz clones with their agents' dildos up their asses.
People generally don't make it in that industry without faking shit here and staging shit there.

Because it's AMERICAN IDOL. It is a goofy reality show with goofy characters. He is not good enough to be in the top 12, and not good enough to be a pop star, but good enough to be on the show here and there to get ratings. The first few weeks of AI are all about that, and tha'ts why it's the only part of the show that is really enjoyable to me.

DanHibiki 01-25-2012 02:43 AM

they'll probably try to push this guy as far as possible just because he's such a character

SkinnyPupp 01-25-2012 02:51 AM

Exactly! In fact, I can't believe people DON'T assume it's just an act... Do you not ever watch TV?

PJ 01-25-2012 06:34 AM

The fact that he even got to those judges is probably saying something.

There's actually 3 pre-screening auditions the contestants have to go through before the audition you see on TV.

This is where behind the scenes show biz kicks in. This is where they filter the ugly people out. If you're ugly and can somewhat sing, you won't get through. If you're attractive and can somewhat sing, then you will get through. Unless you're ugly but so talented that they'd have no choice but to let you through.. 90% of the time you either have to be really good, really bad, or have a good story for the producers to wanna put you on air.

Like Sanjaya? :troll:

Gridlock 01-25-2012 08:02 AM

Which is why the William Hungs and the rest of the "bad" singers you see on tv are being abused by the American Idol system.

Round one: great, going through
2, and 3, yeah, you are going to audition for the judges!

They build them up somewhat to have Randy Jackson destroy their dreas on tv.

Now, you are going to audition for AI, I think you should know what you are in for, but the whole thing is abusive to people. Then when you actually make it on the show, they sign you to a shitty contract and abuse you a little more.

THEN..when you are done, and you win you can't sell anything because no one wants to hear you anymore.

After 12 years, the amount of AI successes is far less than the flops.

Supafly 01-25-2012 08:09 AM

Shes one of the better looking ones; can sing.

ksceric 01-25-2012 08:30 AM

He really isn't that good.
