ICBC Class 5 Road Test

I shall book a road test in Richmond and get rid of N after having class for 7 years.

Any need to take driving instructor?

Where do ICBC Tester take you? I heard its the Alderbridge that connects to the highway?

Where else? and what do they test you on?

Are there parking?

I wish I can fail OP.

No, you will NOT be tested on your parking skills. At the end of your road test, you will just have to pull over to the curb, and an ICBC representative will come out to park your car for you. Two complimentary valet parking per booked road test. Weather permitting.

I took my calls 5 after 12yrs and I was made to parallel park. Shit after all the time whats there to worry about? have your hands at 10 & 2, always shoulder check, stick in the right lane unless you are going to pass. Come to a full stop. Nothing to stress about what so ever just drive like you are supposed to and try not to do some of the bad habbits you are used to

dont get an instructor. you know the rules on the road and what you're supposed to do. you just have bad habits.
for a few days before your exam, just try to fix all those habits and drive like an angel.
when the exam comes you should be prepared enough to pass.

Yea what everyone said .... you know the rules just stick to them. Look out for signs and scan the road if you're unfamiliar with them. There are a few "no right turn on red" intersections and school zones.

I took mine in burnaby and there wasn't parallel parking, just the stall parking. Not that it matters, they care mostly if you're a safe driver, don't speed in school zones etc. even if you hit the curb (slowly) while parallel parking it shouldn't matter.

I was dinged for turning right too slowly though, a safe driver should get out of the way faster.

just took mine yesterday and passed.. i think they mark alot easier than on the class 7 road test. so if you drive every day or on a regular basis you'll be fine as long as you don't do anything stupid.

Failed because you should know the typical rules of the road and what is generally tested.

Class 5 is more emphasis on overall driving skills, with a brief drive on the highway (How you enter, positioning and exit).
Little if any parking, more of pulling over here and there and spotting hazards.

And typical lane changes and such as the class 7 (signal when safe, check, change lanes). The class 5 is mainly there to see if your driving skills are intact (blind spot checks, positioning, etc) and that you can follow the rules of the road.

If ,after driving for 2 years on your N, you still have questions about what you need to do to pas the RT then you obviously are not ready for it. Get an evaluation done by a driving instructor and find out how good/bad you are before dropping $35.

First thing you should do is get an English instructor.
THEN, get a driving instructor. After 7 years of driving with your N, you are bound to have plenty of bad habits. You may not know it, but a instructor will spot it and will correct you.

just remember MSS for when you change lanes or turn... check: Mirror, Signal, then Shoulder check.

In Richmond it is customary to:
- Tip the ICBC representative, $500 should do
- Drive 10 kmph less than the limit
- Do not shoulder check, otherwise you will not be permitted to drive in Richmond
- Drive in the left lane always, never the right lane. if you need to turn right, turn across the right lane, yet remember do not shoulder check
- Go dressed appropriately: sun visor, driving gloves, driving shoes
- Ghost ride the whip in school zones

Bonus points for:
- Demonstrating that 3 point turns are unnecessary when you can mad tight driftz
- Each pedestrian hit
- Having your N sticker cut down

bring a S class or a Rolls so that the driver instructor would fall asleep. Try to pick a time durin the lunch hour.

Hard acceleration is okay.

I think they have several routes they use so it's not always the same.

My first examiner, chinese dude, named Raymond. Complete douche. Yelled at me in my car for making an error. Yes, I failed.

My second examiner. Calm white guy, named Neil (I think). Didn't take me on the highway, drove around the neighborhood, and did hazard perceptions twice. Past.

Mainly merging. Pay close attention to speed limit signs. You will instantly fail if you merge too slow. I merged at 60km in a 80km zone and this car going 100km at least had to change lane to dodge me.

Ditch your driving habits and drive like a granny. Stop fully at stop signs, check intersections and railways, shoulder check right turn, left turn I don't think I got marks on it. Stay within speed limit. If you get raymond, you better start licking some ass.

^ this

i took mine in richmond too, and the examiner didn't test me on a lot of the basic things that i was tested on during my N road test (stuff like parallel parking, backing into the stall at the end of the test)

basically did all the moving things that i did on the N test (school zone, regular driving mostly, with the addition of a small part of the highway and merging onto russ baker from gilbert rd)

good luck op!

Make sure you accelerate when you're merging onto the highway

I wasn't in Richmond... I was in Burnaby.
We got onto the highway and I didn't accelerate fast enough. So I pretty much merged going at 60km/h. There were no cars on the highway and the instructor said if there were cars I would have failed? But, I honestly didn't know how fast to go in the merge lane.. I just knew how to merge..

I was pretty nervous about the whole exam.
