I was just reading the Tommii Wong thread (for those that missed it: http://www.revscene.net/forums/661930-itommiiwong.html) and one of the mods commented on having a username that matched their real name.
Let me first say I have no power over any online forum, I'm just interested in what people think. That said:
How would you feel about using your real name and/or having to authenticate who you are so you could be held personally accountable for your posts online?
Many of my favourite news sites allow commenting on articles, and many have had to moderate the comments as they got out of control. Some have now switched to using Facebook or other means to "authenticate" an account to a real person and the comments are much cleaner and on topic.
My member name is my last name, and I use it on every forum so I am used to most knowing who I am and being able to find lots of information about me - how would you feel about that? would it change what/how you post?

i think it should be your choice whether or not you want to use your name in your user name. mine is just an abbreviation of my first name. i hate the fb account log in sites once i see those i usually stop right there

It may not work well for sites like RS, yet I think it'd work well for sites like RedFlagDeals.

I don't believe it should be made mandatory, but I also believe if you expect to be taken seriously, you should not be afraid of being identified.

As gdoh pointed out, as soon as he saw you had to use a Facebook account to post a comment, he didn't bother.

I believe that social stigma forces most people into behaving appropriately, and when given a chance to hide behind a username online they sometimes act out.
Even the worst people in private tone it down when in public - with a few exceptions of course.

RS community is too close to have something like this. One wrong move and it can not only get out of hand on the internet, it's going to get serious in real life. That's what we don't want.
