Curb Weight: 1340kg (Mazda 3 AT)
Curb Weight: 1555kg (Mazda CX5 AT)
The Mazda 3 is FWD, so a better comparison would be CX-5's 2WD model:
Mazda CX-5 2WD 6AT: 7.7/6.1
Mazda 3 6AT Sky: 7.1/4.9
or.....
Mazda CX-5 2WD 6MT: 7.8 / 5.7
Mazda 3 6MT Sky: 7.7 / 5.0

^I was on my mobile.. too lazy to copy and paste each model..
Either way, I actually wanted a CX5 FWD with the manual (the manual is surprisingly nice). The crappy thing is you can only get it in the GX model (In the US, you can get the 6spd FWD on the next model up with the sunroof and heated seats)

How is this any different than what's on a lot?
PS if you want to take good pictures after a wax job to show off the shine, back lighting at night is not the way. An overcast day outside will show off your hard work the best.

that's actualy kind of meh ...
my 09 GTI running a tune gets me 480-520 a tank avg city/highway
it's also a 55 L tank ..
on my MFD i get city (10.5l/100km) or (8.2l/100km) mixed
my girlfriend did a cypress trip when i was on holiday and sent me a picture getting (5.9l/100km) doing 60km the whole way cuz of the bad rain and fog
that's in a 2.0T ... last i dyno-ed it measured 235whp/255wtq ...
not a bad trade off for an economy car : )

What the fuck have you been driving?
I get around 300-350KM's out of a 60L tank.
That's around 17L/100KM to 20L/100KM
Not too shabby.

Not too shabby. | For a car with fuel savings technology so hyped up it has to have its own badge "SKY ACTIV", 11L/100km is pretty bad.
Hopefully OP will report better numbers once his car's broken in.

I expect a lighter car (~3000 lbs) with a non-FI 2.0L I4 to be MUCH better than that.

Yeah, 11L/100km is pretty bad for a car that size. I'm currently getting about 10.2L/100km out of my Sonata Turbo with mixed city/hwy driving and it's a bigger, more powerful car. Pure hwy driving, I've been as low as 5.9L/100km on my gas runs down to Pt. Roberts.

Of the 38,000 kms I have on my MS3, my average has been 9.8L/100k. At least that's what the trip computer says, and I've never reset it since I've bought it. It also says my average speed has been 34km/h Damn short victoria city blocks.
You should be getting way better in your Skyactiv.

			bump.
any updates with the car? I've been looking at new car options and this one is currently at the top of my list. Just by reading the thread.. I'm guessing their fuel economy isn't near what is being advertised?

oh man only 11L/100KM? no offense but that is not the numbers I was expecting when Mazda advertises their Skyactive technology with great fuel consumption as the selling point :S
My 350's got 3.5L V6, and I'm doing around 12.7L/100KM in city and around 11L/100KM highway
570ish incity and 700ish all hwy on a 75L tank
maybe the car still needs more breaking in? How about the grade of gas you're putting it? I'm still pretty curious about the skyactive 3's (friend just got a plain mazda 3 5spd and I'm interested to see the difference in fuel consumption)

Apparently Mazda3 is not a full Skyactiv implementation, that's why the CX5 has nearly the same fuel consumption figures (It is the first "Full" Skyactiv mazda product).. Honestly the technology boils down to a lot of production improvement on friction reduction technology on the drivetrain and more HSS in the body (Thanks China!).. hence that's why just a facelifted Mazda3 won't get the full benefit.
I think it is best to take a car for a test drive on your usual route.. and get the figures from there. Quote:

Not quite, Skyactiv covers a lot more than just the valvetrain like the examples you pointed out.. Skyactiv covers things like exhaust, 4-2-1 instead of 4-1.. not to mention it addresses the transmission's parasitic losses.
That's one of the reason why the current 3 is not a full Skyactiv implementation is the 4-2-1 exhaust takes up too much space. Quote:

The first tank did around 500km over 90% city. Right now the 2nd fill up lasted around 1200km.
Google'd:
Gas tank size = 14.5 gallons = 54.89 litres
That's roughly 11L per 100km~
Not exactly impressive for fuel but to be fair I didn't try to save fuel either! I will try to drive to save after next fill up and calculate the consumption. | A Z4 does 11L/100Km too.
