Very cool, what are the old vs new fuel economy numbers for the new Skyactiv Mazda3?

kyoshi 01-29-2012 10:12 AM

Grats on the new ride. Head over to bcmazda3.com and sign up as well.

Post up some numbers once the car is broken in :)

It's the marketing name for Mazda's application of technologies/strategies for fuel efficiency in their new cars.

congrats on the new car, always like that blue on the mazda 3 wagon.

friend just got one, he said it could get up to 600km, that's the funny thing. He doesn't know much about cars so when he heard 600km it sounded great til i asked him how big his tank was, and whether or not that was 600km in the city or on the highway. cause fuck, i can do 600km in my g35 on the highway.

k3mps 01-29-2012 01:35 PM

please keep us updated with your mileage.
i got 11l/100km on my first tank.
although it was below 0 the whole week and it was 95% city

and i drove like a grandma that week

I drove like a mad man whenever I could once the engine warmed, trying to push the RPM to 4~5k for breaking in. It was sluggish at first but now the power responded much better; I guess the ECU learned my pattern and I learned its.

The first tank did around 500km over 90% city. Right now the 2nd fill up lasted around 1200km.

Google'd:
Gas tank size = 14.5 gallons = 54.89 litres
That's roughly 11L per 100km~

Not exactly impressive for fuel but to be fair I didn't try to save fuel either! I will try to drive to save after next fill up and calculate the consumption.

k3mps 01-29-2012 03:35 PM

your second tank lasted 1200km???
as in 4.5l/100km?
the first bar lasted 100km for me :)
then every bar after lasted 25-30km :okay:

14.5 Gallon is the tank size, but that's the actual amount you top as per the pump/your receipt?

You're doing the math wrong...
Using 54.89L for 1200km works out to roughly 4.5L /100km

i think he meant the 500km in 90% city worked out to be 11l/100km.
which would make sense if he used his WHOLE tank.

because i did 430km with 47l, which works out to be the same mileage

btw, did you mean your second tank lasted 1200, or lasted until 1200

GabAlmighty 01-29-2012 03:52 PM

But will it last 25 years?

FRStan 01-29-2012 06:29 PM

If it last for 1200km that's really impressive

Ya I meant the 2nd last until 1200km, so roughly 600km for a tank. I'm gonna do a more precise calculation with the exactly liters on the receipt.

Should I get an oil and ATF change now? I've heard that it would be a good idea to drain any particles and change the filter early. But a buddy of mine said it's not really necessary, maybe at 4k for oil change; as for ATF he said only 1/3 is drained usually, plus there's a magnet in there that catches everything?

Bonka 01-30-2012 04:21 PM

Only the ATF at the bottom of the pan drains out. Most of the ATF sits in the torque converter so you'll have to run through the gears to drain the fluid there while another person adds fluid while it drains. The other way would be to do multiple drain and fills to replace most of the old ATF.

There are magnets at the bottom of the pan that collects particle shavings. Best to clean them if you drop the pan.

The owner's manual should indicate fluid change intervals.

How are you liking your car? Are you getting close to the advertised MPG?

I test drove a CX5 with the same SkyActiv engine, and was pleasantly surprised by how smooth it was. Yes, you'll hear the 'diesel clatter' from the outside due to the DI system, but when cruising, you can't hear it.

freakshow 02-19-2012 04:42 PM

what's the advertised mpg? 11 is pretty sad..

too_slow 02-19-2012 05:12 PM

8.0/6.4 for the CX5 AWD with the same engine +6spd Auto

7.1/4.9 for the Mazda 3 with the same engine + 6spd Auto

(Sauce: mazda.ca)

belaud 02-20-2012 12:40 AM

Heh, my STI gets about 11.8L/100KM if I get lucky, its usually about 13L/100KM :(
