You'll be fine, I don't THINK my dad puts stabilizer in the boat when we park it.

Usually you shouldn't store with an empty tank, depending on the length of time due to condensation build up. I'd either store it with an empty tank or a full tank, nothing in between.

If you have a 55% surcharge.. when will you actually be reinsuring the civic? You might want to think about just selling it since you're still taking larger amounts of depreciation every year given that it's an 09.

reinsuring the civic in about 4 months when my surcharge is back to 0
the civic is a finance almost done

ive bought the beater

i washed the car in and out, put all seasons back on filled to 39psi, full tank of gas, going to insure every 2 weeks to drive to work and back, about 40 mins in commute, lets do it!

Fuck, I'd take the bus.

How do you plan to go from 55% to 0% in 4 months? I'm assuming you're going to pay off the accident?

after 3 years it goes back down to 0

The only thing I have found with fuel stabilizer is that it is really hard to start after 4 months. I put it in my motorcycle for winter storage and found that I pretty much had to replace all the gas in the tank before it would start again.

Fuel will survive in your tank and not "gum" shit up if sitting for a year. The only time I use fuel stabilizer is if its sitting for over a year. Your tires are radials they will not develop flat spots in 4 months. They will not develop flat spots even after a year, in the event they do then one quick rip down the HWY will round them out. Running your car for a few minutes every week of bi weekly will lead to condensation buildup in the oil so dont do that either. Once every month or two to dry it out and charge up the battery is good enough.

55% is a +5, so that's 5 years.

After 3 years of no accidents, you drop back to the position on the scale you were at just before you had the accident. I'll try to find the documentation for that on the website..

edit: couldn't find it off the icbc website.. but here it is from another insurance site:

"After your claim, you will move one level down the scale with each claim-free year of driving. However, three consecutive years of claim-free driving will return you to your pre-claim level on the scale if you were in a discount position, or to the base rate if you were in a surcharge position." - https://www.autorenewal.ca/claims_rated_scale.html

I'm sure it's somewhere on the icbc website..

^ I searched their site after reading your post and I can't find it anywhere.

Did your auto insurance broker tell you that? Just curious because my insurance went up to 55% surcharge too, and it's been 4 years and I'm currently at +20% surcharge (I did get scrape someone's bumper last year and had to pay $700 for them to paint their bumper but it didn't affect my premiums).

Edit: called my insurance broker, she said as long as I kept a car insured for 3+ years without a claim I should go back to 0 ... strange how I had to pay a surcharge in 2011 when the claim occurred in 2007 -_-;;

cho 02-10-2012 12:58 AM

That's what the broker said, will update this when I renew insurance then

bump

re-insured car
after THREE years of INSURING a vehicle with ZERO accidents then your discount rate goes back to where you were before the accident

...one more year of surcharge to go!

Would a motorcycle trickle charger work for this as well?

Yes, but his budget might be less than yours or his expenses might be more than yours. $1200 in 3 months may be a jackpot to some and pocket change to others...
