Dell XPS 8300 (or other desktop suggestions)

I'm a total computer noob so i need suggestions, looking for a desktop, mainly for surfing the net, lots of streaming youtube and movies, occasional gaming (dota, LOL, etc), budget is around $800, less is better of course

Dell has the XPS 8300 on sale for $774.00 right now, sounds pretty good
- i7-2600 3.4GHZ
- 8GB DDR3
- 1TB hard drive
- ATI Radeon 6450

Only thing missing is blu ray drive, which will cost an additional $99

Need one that will last for years, aka i can still use for games 5 years from now

Or, any other suggestions for my needs? TIA

The ATI Radeon 6450 is just slightly better than an integrated graphics card, so you won't really be able to do any gaming even for older games, much less games 5 years from now.

You'll always get a better deal if you put together the computer yourself, and it's not hard with lots of DIY on the web now. You can take a look at the Official Building/Upgrading thread. There are a couple of builds that people have put together for less than $800 which would suit your needs more.

I agree, if your use for the computer is more mainstream and not particarly for gaming $800 will get you a lot more than you bargained for. The processor on the computer you're looking at is far above necessary for games like dota or lol, consider what gunchoz said and think about building one instead. There are many tutorials online and myself amongst other members would be happy to help.

better to have a good PSU for a good GPU now or a new one later on, which you usually don't get on a machine like Dell's
