Honestly before "made in japan" was quite the norm, but after the earthquakes.. I'm really looking for local fish.

Does not fit the category of "fine sushi" to most people in this thread.

First of all the dark night club lighting doesn't help one to see what poorly made rolls you just ordered. All of the food wasn't anything special or good. Why the hell is it so expensive? Because stupid kids are willing to pay that much for it.
The music was so loud that it made it difficult to have any sort of conversation. The walls were littered with all sorts of garbage decorations and the menus had "Miso Horny" on the front covers.
What a stupid restaurant.
On Sunday night we went to Applause on Oak St and found the fish to be of very good quality. The food was a bit higher priced than your average run of the mill sushi restaurant, but still affordable and worthwhile.

It's dark as fuck in there and the music is as loud as a club, you can't even have a conversation there without yelling. The food sucks too, rolls tasted meh and the beef was as hard as a rock for their beef yaki udon.

I don't mind Ocean West Coast Bistro on Granville and Zipang on Main when I'm in Vancouver.
further out, I Love Sushi on Schoolhouse in Coq.

anyone able to help me out? | There is Vanya and Shiosai. The former serves cooked foods, too. The latter is more of a take out place and it's cheap.
Both Japanese operated.

Torarenboe in Richmond.
Operated by a lot of Chinese people but the owner is Japanese and still works as one of the sushi chefs.
Make sure you reserve a table before hand because they often turn away walk-ins due to being fully booked.
