I'm still a fan of Kimura. Their toro...still the best I've had in the city. Just MELT IN YOUR MOUTH!!!!! Zipang has gone downhill imo...

First of all the dark night club lighting doesn't help one to see what poorly made rolls you just ordered. All of the food wasn't anything special or good. Why the hell is it so expensive? Because stupid kids are willing to pay that much for it.
The music was so loud that it made it difficult to have any sort of conversation. The walls were littered with all sorts of garbage decorations and the menus had "Miso Horny" on the front covers.
What a stupid restaurant.
On Sunday night we went to Applause on Oak St and found the fish to be of very good quality. The food was a bit higher priced than your average run of the mill sushi restaurant, but still affordable and worthwhile. | was Applause on Oak busy? i always feel sad for them when i pass by cause for some reason, i think not much ppl visit this place

Nagoya out in surrey is pretty good. Large portions, cheap prices, and staff is always friendly. They always throw in free stuff/extra when I go.

I have only been to Torarenbo once and i didnt like it. I dont mind giving it another try.
With pricing aside, would you guys say the Sushi there is comparable with Sushi Hachi , tsukiji?? or even ocotpus garden.
Again, just want good, dont care about "value"

Speaking of Surrey, Akasaka in Guildford, near the theatres/Oriental Buffet. I've had some frozen salmon sashimi come in once when it was busy, but god help me if I can't have french kiss rolls once a month at least.

I haven't done high-end sushi in a while but two places that are top of mind for me:
Sakana in Yaletown. Not bad quality but kind of pricey. Good date spot.
Takumi in West Van. Used to be on North Road years ago. Loved that place. Haven't been since they moved to West Van a couple years ago to be honest, but I have meen meaning to try it. Added bonus is the drive to/from along Marine Drive is always a good one.

Luongo orders take-out from Bistro Sakana sometimes. Ran into him twice there.
Tokachi in Whalley is probably one of your best bets for quality sashimi/nigiri. That or Hanako. Both are solid.

Haha, id say Tobiko is pretty average. Nonetheless, food isnt bad there, worth a try! Tokachi is a diamond, like mentioned
Its kind of hidden, you have to drive into one of the complexes to see it, right by the Petro there
