2 ohms amp for single 4 ohms sub? work?

I think , its nearing time to replace my amp. its running for over 8 years. pushing 2 MTX 6000 subs with 250w rms.

im thinking of downgrading to just one sub ( more trunk space) - tested single sub, and sounds ok.

anyhow question :

mts 6000 runs at 250 rms @ 4 ohms

so getting a mono amp pushing 250 rms @ 2 ohms to the mtx would work? (think anything over 2 ohms should be fine?)

At 4 ohms that amp will only be pushing 125 watts. Its best to run an amp that puts out as much power as possible at 4 ohms...or get a sub that is a single 2 ohm or a dual 4 ohm so the amp can put out most of its power at 2 ohms. Class D amps are really efficient and most are good at 2 ohms. Class AB amps are usually good at 4 ohms mono bridged.

Are you intenting to maintain the same level of performance or are you have with half at best of current performance? If your fine with less bass then go for it you are downgrading afterall
