how well do you know brittania?

I know of a lot of slightly less known stuff up there, not a chance of getting to most of it right now, but in the summer you can get there with a 2wd pick up (went last year with a 2wd titan)

i'll post some stuff, if you guys ever want someone to show you around a bit i'd be down to show you some things :)

hah this reminds me of highschool way back, couple of my friends and i had to make a video project for school which we needed an abandoned house for. We heard from people that there was a ghost town one right by womens corrections deep in maple ridge, 249th area

it was here, although google street doesnt go further in, its where the gate starts

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Maple+Ridge,+BC,+Canada&hl=en&ll=49.246285,-122.528125&spn=0.00096,0.00258&sll=49.272845,-122.623644&sspn=0.030688,0.082569&hnear=Maple+Ridge,+Greater+Vancouver+Regional+District,+British+Columbia,+Canada&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=49.246331,-122.528079&panoid=Sa6A1aSLkVh9CTGg7F8VIA&cbp=13,26.57,,0,1.1
the background setting for our movie had to be during night time, so we were there at 3am like rebels. Of course there was a gate, but again, we were highschool rebels and went pass the gate, saw a cougar, no joke LOL, was pretty scared to shit, and the fact that it was right beside womens corrections made it even more eery at 3am, only thing we had was a flashlight off a shitty flip cell phone as well haha

but yeah aside from my coolstory, the place was gnarly, a huge mantion with a gate sitting there on the left side of the trail abandoned, and further in was bunch of abandoned shops and public washrooms lol wtf. The teacher was amazed at our video because of the perfect location for what we were doing but told us not to go again haha

the entrance of the trail that leads to the place notes no trespassing.. but for some reason no one really cared lol, i even went for a walk there with a girl cuz there was a waterfall, river and a nice scenary, saw random workers in the middle of the trail and they didnt care either lol. some people went off roading there as well

but that was 5 years ago, i'm sure things have probably changed now.

Yes, find a place that is lowered car friendly.

Some of my family moved to Vancouver from Bralorne after the gold mine shut down in the 70's.

It's pretty much a ghost town now, there is a few retirees there and a museum. Been a few years since I was there, wouldn't mind going back and checking it out.

Teh Doucher 03-02-2012 11:09 AM

fuck i'd be down for some of this ghost town exploring as well. so much still left to see in our own back yard.

Ronin 03-02-2012 11:23 AM

COOL.

I'm in if you guys decide to do this. I saw a page for local urban explorers a few years ago...an older web page with pics from abandoned structures around town like condemned buildings and the McD's barge.

yogenfruz 03-02-2012 12:16 PM

I know back home in Kamloops, there's Padova, which I believe served as both an elementary school and a mental institution. It's pretty beat up now because kids always break in and wander around... It's completely deserted except for the odd bit of security keeping kids and bears out. I know my friend was shot at before because they thought he was a bear. It's a really interesting place to see though.

I wish the mental hospital in New West is gone. Back in the last 90's early 2000 I always used to go with my buddies and talk about fucken freaky shit. To bad cells didnt have camera's back then or I could post some pics.

GabAlmighty 03-02-2012 01:18 PM

Murdoc I could be down for a britannia trip, not next friday but the one after? I throw day permits on the 4runner for it.

murd0c 03-02-2012 01:21 PM

I work Fridays sooooooo, we should like something up for a nice day tho. I don't mind it but exploring in the rain isnt as fun as when its nice out.

kevin7352 03-02-2012 01:35 PM

interesting thread

i've never actually thought about ghost towns but now i'm thinking it'd be a cool idea for a day trip in the summer

godwin 03-02-2012 01:39 PM

There is always the abandoned buildings at Riverview.. not to mention the infamous Steam tunnels at UBC, Vancouver General?

McBarge is on its way to Mission finally as a restaurant?

I've always wanted to check out the wing at Riverview. A family friend used to work there and said there are ghosts there and she will not step foot there and doesn't even want to talk about it.

I heard lots of terrible things happen to the mentally ill in that facility
nothing haunted but would creep the shit outta me if I tried trespassing it knowing its history.

100% would be a wasted trip right now. last year i went camping this time of year up there and we hit snow before any of the cool stuff, The snow level is so low up here right now that we couldn't make it up without snowmobiles.

unless you'd want to hike in from where you hit 4' of snow :)

either way i'm down for sat or sundays

saucywoman 03-02-2012 05:28 PM

I'm in for exploring but only have weekends off so if something's going on then count me in

Bedroom eyes padova was also a turbuculosis facility, how do u not know this :p

Coalmont and Tullameen are lowered car friendly. There's a long ass gravel/dirt road, but I did it back when my Accord was maybe two inches off the ground. You need to hit them during the off-season, though. The lakes around there get very popular during summer.

Lomac 03-02-2012 10:05 PM

I'll admit that I started this thread to figure out some plans for this summer with a couple friends, but if some of you guys want to get together at some point to go wheeling and do some exploring, I'm absolutely in!

murd0c 03-02-2012 10:11 PM

I so down to check it out like I said, go out there I can bring my weber bbq check stuff out have something to eat and head back. Days like that are awesome.
